rivets

I use this method when taking apart folders, and I guess it would work for removing scales held on by rivits...

Take a large strong razor blade found on something like a utility knife or the kind of blades that you can buy for large scrapers. Work the blade between the scales and blade, and gently hit the back of the razor with a hammer until it cuts through the pins. It's a good idea to put some paper or something under the knife to keep from scratching it up.

If you have glued the scales on in adition to riviting them, you may have more problems.

I hope this helps.

I`m trying to remove scales from new Italian stilettos. I have several knives which are very nice, that I would like to replace the scales with mammoth ivory.
I`m a machinist, so it`s not to hard to find a way to remove rivets, however, I would really like to do no damage.
Where can I buy rivets?
