Greetings,
I was wondering if there is away to rivet bolsters without having the rivets showing after polishing?

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated, I have been making knives for about two years and it has always bothered me.

Thanks for the advice.

I never have completely. I think much of is that the rivets are not always the exact formula as the bolster, and possibly because it is end grain, like in wood? Another possibility could be that you will anneal the rivet, but not necessarily the bolster. Maybe that has something to do with it. I have done them where after polish I could not see them, but after a little exposure to the elements, they will show.

Yes, but not rivits in the true sense of the word. You would use a hidden pin design. Or if it absolutly must be rivited. You could overbore the holes on the top side of the scales, half way deep. then use a hammer, riveting punch and small 1# anvil to make a "riviting stiddy" to rivet the handle on then use a dowl or some other inlay to cover your hole.
