Hey, I am not a knife maker and have never used any tools (ever). This is why I am asking you. I want to know how to replace the rivits in a balisong. It is a Jaguar butterfly knife and both of the rivits on the handles broke. I have no idea how to make a rivit or where to go to get someone else to make one. I already talked to Jaguar and they have no warrantes on it. Can 'ya help through a message board?

You need to find some wire the right size, brass or soft steel like a nail or a coathanger. Cut a length so it'll go through and stick out a little bit on both sides, set it on an anvil and tap it with a hammer, not too hard -- just hard enough so both ends get mushroomed.

Or you could go to a hardware store and get stove bolts to fit, and buy a tube of Loctite so the nuts will stay on without your having to tighten them. You probably won't be able to get bolts exactly the right length, but you can hacksaw or file off the excess. If you use brass bolts that'll be easier.

It's a good do-it-yourself project, not too hard, and paying a knifemaker to do it plus shipping both ways would probably cost more than buying a new one.
