Rivot/bolts?

Hi HOGS. I really like the rivets in the handles. Are rivets stronger than bolts in a handle? Bolts would make disassembling easier or no? What about a rivet/bolt to experiment with? Hmm.

I think the tube fasteners (rivets) that Busse uses are the strongest. Remember they used to use bolts and moved away from them. I have an SFNO that had the handle slabs removed. Chicago screws were used to reattach them temporarily. They can't be torqued down very hard. I broke one trying to do so. I wouldn't recommend them for handle attachment. There are some threads around here about using other types of screws/bolts. I'm pretty sure someone rehandled his Fire Warden with brass bolts.

I would go with tubes every time. They are easy to get and require just a little skill to flare. You can order the stainless tubing from several places. I found it a Sheffield's Knife Supply:

Go to page 8 in the catalog. The item is 304 stainless steel tubing. You need 1/4" outside diameter tube for all Busse handles.

I haven't tried it yet, but Wicked and Randucci put out threads with great instructions. Good luck.

mike biz---Thanks for the reply and explanation!! That's all I needed to hear. I can't wait for my GW to get here! Thanks!

Uncle Jarvis lead me to a Red .14 satin slicer!! Okuden has it for a sheath. Do you have any GW's now?

Lycosa,

I got a 0.200" tan/grey and never looked back. Replaced a slew of other 3" EDC knives, and I carry her every time I go out.

You won't regret it!!

Biogon---Coolness, on your GW! After hanging here for awhile, I Know what that piece of infi will do. Can't wait. Thanks for the post!

The bolt type take a little more time to install, and are sensitive to differences in the thickness of the knife blade and handle slabs.(takes more hand fitting)

The hole type fasteners do come loose some times when you throw them wrong, but are pretty easy to re-tighten or to replace.

The hole type are less sensitive about the thickness of the knife overall.

How can a hollow rivet be stronger than a solid steel Loveless style bolt ? :)
That is, if the diameters are the same.

Sag.

I am not quite sure which one is actually stronger. But keep in mind that even though bolt is 1/4 the OD through the tang is 3/16 for the female side. The male side is threaded making it even smaller yet. Both the bolts and the tubes are damn strong.
