Well kids, I just got this email from the illustrious Mr. Martin, and thought I ought to share it with you.

As per RJ:

The Carpenter CTS-XHP takes a real nice mirror finish, although you can’t really see it in this pic. The bevels are satin, the tang is tapered. OLD SCHOOL!!!!!!!

RJ, you're too cool, my friend. Congrats on Best Fighter of Blade 2011!!!

Congratulations are well deserved

Amazing grinds, I would love to check it out in hand. As Lorien and Joe said, congratulations are well deserved. Thanks for sharing Matthew.

Rj makes a great knife no matter what type....his Q36 is the star of my folders hands down!! this fighter I handled on one of my 5 trips to his table at blade.

what can you say....he got skills!!

J

Thanks for posting that Matt - that one definitely made a strong impression. And I'm not knocking the photo, but in person the perfect blade finish and crisp grinds are more evident. Congrats R.J.!

Roger

Just to be clear for those that are not sure about what this means and the attendant accomplishment....

This isn't a winner in the TACTICAL fighter category...it may be(and is) a tactical fighter, but R.J. entered it into the "Best Fighter" category, and won....after winning the "Best Tactical FOLDER" category four years in a row.

It means is that R.J. stepped outside of the box(again), and competed against every other fighter entered, stock removal, forged, tactical, shiny, satin finish....and produced a winning knife.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

RJ is the man! I'm proud to own two of his excellent knives (the latest acquired just this week at Blade!).

Matt: Thanks much for posting. STeven is correct, the category was "Best Fighter". My bad for not specifyng that more clearly when I emailed you. Regardless of the post title, THANKS!!!

I'm just happy that everyone can see the pic.........I had a lot of fun making the knife. "Fun" knives always seem to come out better.

I did not envy the judges this year-It seemed there were more entries in every category this year, which is great, and from what I saw most of the entries were "A game" quality.

Thanks everyone for your positive comments at the show and here on BF.

Mods, and chance one of you can edit my thread title to reflect this:

RJ Martin Blade Show 'Best Fighter' Award Winner

Thanks!

Man, you're strict Steven!!! :D

Hi Eric,

The maneuverability of the knife in your hand was in no small part responsible for the knife winning.

Some of the knives entered were basically copies of a Loveless design (note to the makers....try to come up with something you designed....instead of copying another makers work.) These particular knives were excellent copies, but were heavy, the handles were (in one case) too tall or overly thick.

Others weighed a pound or more.

The number of knives entered into this category was about double compared to last year.

There were several awesome knives in this category!

Congrats RJ.

Matt - you can edit it yourself. Select "Edit Post" at the bottom of the first entry. Then select "Go Advanced" and you will see where you can edit the title.

I will have to you folks how my buddies jaws dropped when I brought them to RJs booth, one of them won the raffle for a q36 on Friday. He liked it so much.... Looked in his wallet and realized he was short on money.

I quickly pulled out the cash for the q36 and told him " I want you to have this knife"

He actually looked like a small child at Christmas when they open the toy they have wanted the most all year!

I think even RJ saw how excited he was!
That is what buddies are for, my good karma returned when I won the raffle on Friday and was able to grab my first pick knife which was a Q36 with Damacus blade and bolsters and the cleanest most matching stag i have ever seen on a pocket knife.

No one could go to RJs booth without putting their grubby mits on that fighter as well, it was like a magnet!!!

Life is good!!

Jeff
