I really like the way it looks, ive also heard that his knives are among the sharpest in the industry. I would like to hear feed back, or see pictures if anyone has one. It would be for almost EDC as a neck knife.

Thanx!

I don't mean to horn in, and unfortunately I can't afford his Kerambit, but I WILL say that the one knife of his that I have (the Beanieball) is perhaps the sharpest knife I've ever owned. It is something of an enigma that a package that small could cut through almost anything that I've tried yet. An amazing knife, and R J makes some of the sharpest knives around. That, and he is also one of the nicest guys that you'll ever come across. A great guy.

Sincerely,
Anthony

i appreciate your reply. Im really looking forward to ordering a knife from him. I have read nothing but good things. and sharp is... deffinatly good :D

I have owned RJ's Karambit now for just about 6 months and I am extremely pleased with my purchase. RJ was recommended to me by a mutual friend of ours who is very well versed in edged weapons and works for the government. Upon contacting him, I found RJ to be friendly and extremely knowledgeable (see his website at www.martinsite.com for his background). It was easy to place my order and I received the knife only a few days after speaking with him on the phone (I live in LA).

I need to say that RJ's version of the karambit is perfect for what I need/want in a fixed blade version. While I own folding versions by Spyderco and Tarani, I feel that RJ's fixed blade version is exceptional for all combat application. Make no mistake this is 100% weapon, and if you are looking for a utility knife in my opinion you should look for a utility knife, not this.

I became interested in the karambit after training in Sayoc Kali as well as Pentjak Silat under Guro Dan Inosanto. RJ Martin's Karambit is not only comfortable, but ideal for the trapping, hooking, ripping, slashing and thrusting applications that I have learned. My instructors and fellow students even felt that it was a piece of work. Even untrained, RJ's Karambit is a formidable opponent for the structure that it is meant to be used in. As with all karambits, RJ's version may not fare as well as a "straight" blade in a dueling range but for close quarters this weapon is terrifying. The strength of karambits in general lie not in their size but their shape, and the RJ Martin Karambit is not only a great size but perfect shape. Outside edge as well as inside edge are just large enough to do surface and internal damage, but small enough to be positioned and manuevered very easily.

Along with the Kydex sheath RJ provided this knife would be great carry as a neck knife or holstered outside of the belt, but does not quite provide the same concealed abilities that its folding counterparts does. The benefits however to the fixed attribute and outside edge, in my opinion far outweigh its drawbacks in a combat situation.

I highly recommend RJ Martin's Karambit. If you or anyone else has any questions for me regarding my thoughts and opinions please contact me via email at jmarana@verizon.net.

I handled RJ's karambit a couple of times...it is WICKEDLY sharp (as are all of his knives, BTW)...very lightweight and well balanced...a very fast spinner! The striations on the blade are very aesthetically pleasing too...I especially like the silver G10!

I have had one of Mr. Martin's silver G10 karambit for about two months now. Very easy to handle, and as the rumors say- very, very sharp. I can see how someone can do a lot of damage with this little nasty!

I have carried mine as a neck knife and the only negative comment that I have is the sheath. You have to rotate the knife as you pull it out. My wearing it as a necker and my pulling the knife straight down resulted in the tip of the blade hitting the rivet (see RL's photo) that's located mid inside edge. Result after a 3 pulls was slight ding to the last 1/8" near the tip. Maybe I was being sloppy, but when you need the knife faster then ASAP, you will just grab it and pull.

I contacted Mr. Martin by email, and he had no problems in redesigning the sheath for me and resharpening the blade. All I paid for was the usual shipping cost.

Isn't anybody concerned about carrying a double edged knife around as an EDC?

Most, if not all states prohibit double edged weapons. Though RJ's kerambit is well worth looking into [ as are others ], how do you folks who carry them feel about being discovered with a double edged weapon which is against the law.

I'll put the disclaimer in here that for most, double edge is illegal to carry. Does anyone live in the US whose states laws allow double edged knives to be carried?

Inquiring minds would like to know how those who carry them feel about their legality.

To be honest, I don't carry mine as an EDC although I have carried it on occasion. My personal mentality is that if I have to use my weapon (whatever it may be at the time) then I probably won't be too worried about legalities in the moment, or in that situation. If I have to use my skills then I will respond with lethal action.

If I was more concerned with the law, or for that matter not hurting people then I probably would carry no blade at all, and rely solely on empty hand, flexible weapons (belt, shoulder strap) or environmental assistants (pens, towels, etc.).

I feel that if I am going to carry a blade, or more specifically if I will carry a fixed blade karambit I will do so with no "utility" purpose in mind (even if this is my excuse to law enforcement). I know this isn't the most "PC" response, but it is my most honest.

I will be interested to hear others' response to this question, which I believe is a good and valid one, particularly because the karambit is most effective as a double edged fixed blade.

Hi DJ,

The main problem I see with carrying something restricted in your local is IF you do use it to defend, whether rightfully so or not, you are going to be charged and your SD claim may just fly out the window at trial.

After all, you defended yourself with something that was illegalto have in the first place. At the least of it, SD will be a hard road in court, making it that much easier for a DA to paint you as someone with no respect for the law.

It may go to your character which is the first thing often enough that gets challenged. Like " why did you have the knife to begin with "? and then why the illegal knife?

Doesn't sit well with laypeople on a jury that you break the law to protect yourself. Just a thought, it will be intersting to see others responses. I'd no more carry an illegal knife with SD in mind than I would carry an illegal firearm.

Illinois limits neither blade length or double-edges, unless 'posessed with intent to use unlawfully against another', which generally means you attacked someone with it.

I'm sure Blago is working on 'fixing' that, tho!

In Maryland, it is pretty much an oxymoron- No restriction on blade length, or style (single or double edged) but it can not be carried concealed. Of course, if you walk around with a big knife visible, you definitely will attract alot of attention by the sheeple and will most likely be hassled by the police who are unsure of the law. Go figure....
