I thought I knew sharp until I got my RJ Martin Kozuka a couple of days ago. My mum had to threaten me with a chopper to get me out of the kitchen where I was slicing vege, potatoes, meat and grinning like crazy

One thing, the cord-wrapped handle smells wierd - it is the resin used or some exoteric treatment of the rayskin?

RJ is the Guru of SHARP... He has it down to a science.. He got bit by one of his blades from what he tells me. He is still doing P-therapy because of it.. He certainly knows how to make a chisel grind CUT! He gave me the "Holy Grail" some time ago and before I wasnt able to get a chisel grind to cut very well. If he ever quits his day job and goes into knife making full time LOOK OUT!!!:-)

Redvenom: Glad to hear you're using it!
As to any odor, it's probably Tuf Glide. You can scrub the handle with liquid detergent and a toothbrush. I like to spray WD-40 on after, and wipe it down good with a paper towel.

I bought a used Kozuka on the forums. The day it came I bought a second! I don't know why. It just seems like a great and handy knife. Sheaths are the best thing since sliced anything. Which is exactally what they do. Oh yea I also bought a new larger version from Les. I'm almost afraid to play with it.

RJ, can I get the used kozuka resharpened by you. I did not pay full retail so I will gladly pay you to do it. As soon as the new one comes that is.

RJ, thanks for the tips. This is my first cord-wrap blade. Can I assume the cord wrap on the handle will take washing with water?

I kinda ran out of things to cut round the house. The grind really is superb - shaves paper with almost no resistance. Ran it through some cardboard boxes too and didn't even mar the finish until I stupidly inserted the knife the wrong way into the sheath (duh!) and put some scratches onto it - had to happen sometime I guess. Not too shattered though, as I wanted it as a user not a "drawer queen".

Hey Kenin & Sam, if yer reading this, I got a new toy for you guys to examine next meet!

I have 3 RJ Martins, 2 of which I've sent back to him for his resharpening. With both he's advised me to "watch your fingers..."

At least he achieves sharpness to such a degree, that when you DO cut yourself, you're likely not to feel it much!

Guys: Resharpening is $15 which covers 2 day FeDex, insured. I sharpen the blade and polish out any scratches, Tuf Glide the knife and inside of the sheath.

yes, the handles can take washing-the epoxy impregnation goes right thru to the steel.

Sorry you ran out of things to cut

Trust me-you won't know it if you cut yourself. I damn near amputated my finger and it really didn't hurt. But, the surgeon appreciated the surgical cut quality-it helped him when he re-assembled the damaged parts!
