Sal, the military is a well manafactured knife. But what if you took the Rolling Lock Military and put a wave feature on that famous hump, you know the hump that sometimes gets snagged on some users pockets. The wave feature could be one that is kind of like the one that is on the Emerson Commander. But you still have to keep the premium 440v blade steel. I think that these combinations of knife features would make a top seller for Spyderco. Just think about it. A Military with a great lock, a quicker draw than any automatic, and a premium blade steel. I would like to take a poll right now, and just see how many people would buy the knife that I have just described. What do you think Sal?? Thanks, David Walker

I would buy one for sure.

While the wave is an excellent idea, the "drop" is also an extremely fast opening method, faster for me than an auto. I don't feel that Spyderco should exchange their patented opener for someone else's. A knife could not have both, as the drop is a tip-down technique and the wave works tip-up.

I'm not against the wave, per se, but feel that the Military should get the rolling lock and otherwise be left alone (well, perhaps reduce the thumb-grooving - I still haven't gotten my Dremel bits, but soon...) Maybe another model could get this feature. I still feel that it would be better to let another company without an excellent proprietary opening system try the wave before Spyderco changes what they've done right for so long. This is assuming Emerson cares to license it at all, of course...

I agree with Corduroy. Military with rolling lock!!! I'll take one!!

Big D1 - I must say I agree with Corduroy.

First of all, I'm not convinced that the Commander will come out of a pocket into depoloyment any faster than the "drop opening" on a Military.

2nd, I believe that the "Wave" feature (a name that will have to be changed as it is owned by Leatherman) is patented by Ernie.

3rd, I used to build in a nick at the top of the blade for rapeid depoloyment of spring back folders circua 1952. Found some disadvantages, espeicallay on pockets.

I believe the Commander is a beautiful design (from one designer to another). Ernie has an excellent Eye. No one knife can have all of the positive ideas possible.
