This isnt a real good photo but the hammon is too good not to post.
Companion Model with green and black micarta. Copper Loveless bolts and thong tube. 3.75" blade - 8.25" overall - 5/32" 0-1
This was made to match a Tracker knife that you have recently sent to Canada.

Hope she outcuts your knife!!! Just kidding friend ;)

Hope it does Rogers Knife Justice :)

That's one heck of hammon... was it just a regular edge quench? What was the quenchant?

Great lookin knife!!!

not sure - I do a full quench, only having the edge to hardening temp.
Turned out nice though :)

Yep, that looks like it alright. I bet it is a 10XX steel. My 1075 WSK's hamon also with full quench. I use Brownell's Tough Quench.

That one will go well with the WSK and a super good looking job too, but will not out cut her:D (I hope).

I think it will blend in nice next to the Linger WSK. Stamped Seal of approval!!

nice one Brian
atta boy:)

RYT judt so you know the differance
I think you'll fine Rogers full quench is with a fully heated blade (oven), and Brains is with the edge only up to temp (A/O)..

if I'm wrong guys and you changed your ways tell me :)

How do you get such uniform results then? All of the hammons look the same- you can tell a Goode hammon from a bad hammon(I deserve to be kicked... I know), and yet it is all done with a handheld torch...

BTW: have you ever thought of doing a decorative hammon, or doing a knife that doesn't look like a Goode(no pun intended this time) knife? They all manage to look like brother and sister pieces, even if they are from a whole nother family of design.
Thanks for the replies!

RYT it's called a makers styl
and Brain's on the right track to be known by his..:)

you'll find on the o1 steel you can get a great straight line but getting the real ragged Hamons you need to use the 10xx steels mainey and clay will help you ,,

ha ha - This is a good topic to get onto. I just go slow and let the steel tell me what it wants. I used to let the material sort of shape itself when I was in art school so this is my way of doing that now.

Turn all of the lights out and let the torch do the work for you...go slow...and dont overheat.

I wonder if a D2 steel knife would still hae the Goode look without the hammon? We'll see in time :)

Email me and we can talk about how to go about heat treating if you want.

Thanks for the generous offer Brian! Expect an email in a week or two when I have a blade to treat.
