Hi Guys,

So i skipped out of work today a bit early to get packing for my trip this weekend. Since laundry does what laundry does no matter what i do, i decided to do some sheath work.

This is my first attempt at Kydex work so let me know how i did. I'm not totally finished, I'm still working some of the radius sizes to suite my needs, and it needs some hand sanding.

First a glamor shot of my wonderful new RMD:

And now for in its sheath:

And with its sheath:

Thanks! Its a process for sure. My next project is gonna be for my Warde, but that will have to wait until monday unfortunately.

Looks great! I would move the rivets a bit closer and trim it, but it really all depends on how you plan on carrying it. How do you plan on carrying it?

I'm still learning a ton with every one I make. Pix in THIS THREAD.

Great stuff - after making my own, I have never looked back. I find that learning as much as you can followed by whole load of patience does the trick. After this you will find ways to improve like dimple in the sheath to match the pin hole in the handle, and how to flare the Kydex at the tang so that you can push out the knife with your thumb, etc.

good advice. I did dimple the sheath to match the rivets though and it works sweet. I do think I'm gonna try flaring it at the tang though.

This is designed for pocket carry. I had a pic of it in my pocket but my camera mysteriously ate all those photos and i had to re-shoot everything. Today is supposed to be hurricaney so i may not be getting outside, but if i do i'll take a pic of how it rides. I'm quite pleased by it. I do think i might try riveting closer on my second attempt.

Keep the advice coming :)

thanks,
Adam

I've made a few sheaths over the last few years for my own use as well. I make a "thumb push" flare by locally heating the area with a heat gun and pushing a round, knurled handle of a 1/2" drive ratchet that I have into the heated area. Pay attention to keep it straight and square to the sheath and just hold it in place for a few seconds. The final product is a textured thumb push. It works for me

better than the chopstick and lighter approach i initially took.

btw, watch for my first swamp warden attempt soon, i'm gonna take some pics today now that i'm back in Jerz. No rivets or shaping yet so i can show more of my bumbling attempts before the finished product.
