RMD LE with sheath only worth $210??

Seriously? But when I bought my RMD LE from Swamp Rat it cost me like $170. Then the sheath was like $70 from Azwelkes. It dropped THAT bad in value?

Mine was around $180 i think from the Swamp.
The guy and I were at 250 for the knife and sheath, but he now says he found someone selling the LE with a sheath for 210 so he thinks I'm trying to scam him. I mean, the sheath itself cost me $70 and it was well made by a fellow BF member, not just some home-made job.

Imo it would depend on the sheath. The knife itself is around 180 give or take. So depending on the sheath it may be 210 it may be 250, but keep in mind most dont get back what they put into sheaths.

Not every piece of steel is going to be worth what you paid for it. I never consider a knife an investment.
It may be an LE but it is still a RMD and there are plenty of those around.

I don't see a $30 depreciation as particularly unreasonable. You're asking for $10 more than you paid for both items. That seems less reasonable to me.

This is true no knives are holding there value like they used to given the current economy. About the only knife that is staying to its value are Randalls but even some of those models have started to slip.

Honestly I think 210 is a darn fair offer for a RMD LE with a kydex sheath. Now if it was wrapped up in some Cuddly Bear Leather 250 might be in the ballpark of something I would deem fair.

It's pancake style with tek-lok and MOLLE slots.

Also it wasn't a deal for $260 cash, it's a Blackjack model 16 and then a spyderco sharpmaker but now he says I'm asking too much.

Tell him to look elsewhere if he doesn't like your price. You could ask $1000 for it and it shouldn't matter what anyone else thinks about it. People should simply pass on a blade if it is over priced in their opinion or just suck it up and buy it if they want one bad enough. I have over paid for most of my collection due to the simple fact that some of my blades are rarely up for sale and i don't mind over paying as long as i can afford to do such. I don't buy to turn a profit... i buy to enjoy! Your RMD is worth whatever you think it is worth and that should be final. Limited run of 300 so tell there are 299 more out there so get to looking!:p

Sheaths are generally not the "investment" the blade is. Consider selling them separately. Like infocus said, depending on the scarcity of the blade, how long it's been out of production, current desires among buyers, etc., that can really determine the selling point. I got my RMDLE for less than a regular RMD from the store (and frankly, that's the only reason I got it--not cause it was an LE, although that was a bonus). I've also seen them sell for $225 a piece. There is little rhyme or reason to the pricing. If you don't NEED to sell right now, hold on to it until the market for that model turns around. I don't think either of you is out to scam the other. If he can find a better deal, great. If not, then he shouldn't whine ;)

Sheaths are not going to increase the value of the knife unless thats exactly the sheath you want. Its personal preference. I don't look at knives as something that will appreciate in value. Some do but I tend to use them more than collect them. A given things value is worth exactly what someone else is willing to pay. If you don't think you are getting enough for what you want to sell keep it until you can get what you are asking.

I agree with this and what others have been saying.

If you cannot get your asking price (and turn a profit), your asking price is too high for those looking to buy at that moment. If your buyer finds a better deal, the other seller may be losing money (not trying to undercut you) or maybe needs the funds more, or doesn't require a profit from the knife. Wait. Once that seller is gone, maybe you'll have the lowest price offered, and maybe someone will be willing to pay it. Supply vs Demand. If the demand is weak, only a lower price will attract a sale. If demand is high... The economy sucks right now. I recently bought a Hog Muk + sheath for less than the knife would cost me from the shop. And since then others have sold for less. *shrug*

I suspect if it were 1 of 300 or 300 of 300 it would be worth more. However, like one of the posters said, it's just a RMD and there are plenty of them around. Although, the LE is so much nicer looking!

Well said brother! could not have put it any better.

I had a guy ask me what it would take to sell my my Ruger Red Label 12 gauge with English stock a while back. I told him $1500. He then told me I was crazy because it didn't cost that new and that it was 10 years old. I then told him "well I guess you should have bought one 10 years ago when they were cheap and they still were in production". He didn't think it was funny and hung up on me.:D
