I carved/tooled a sheath for a MMD also, was a good practice run. I was just too wishy washy with this one, the tree would be interesting but it needed a lot more depth.

This time I practiced on a piece of scrap after picking up a bunch of different stamps, shaders, and bevelers.

Agreed! Well done. I love leather carving, dont get to do it much, but when I do its a real treat. :D

I must've been partaking of the bourbon too much, I forgot I posted this here.

This is where craftsmanship becomes artistry. Well done!

That is very generous of you! For me at least the artsy part is just figuring out what kind of image mates up well with the knife and projected use and/or user. I've done bonsai for years and decided that the only way I'll ever become an artist is by being a really, really good craftsman. I can't draw a good

Dwayne, I went on about how much I appreciate Chuck and Paul's DVD's in another thread but just so you know your work here and on that other forum you moderate are very influential and beneficial for a new dude like myself. If I can settle the booze fumes down a bit I might be able to send a cogent PM your way, I've a question you may be able to help with. For my current point of view in leather work.. if I do a sheath without embellishment or artifice it feels like a chore, and I don't have much fun doing it. If I have an idea for a theme or carving design I tweak out for days until I've gotten it finished, it's quite satisfying.

Very cool

Very cool of you to say so, it means a lot to me.

The first person who I showed this sheath to thought it looked I'd put Jerry Garcia on the sheath. It was pretty awesome, I was butthurt and laughing my ass off at the same time. I was going for the Father Time/Old Man Winter/Green Man/Wood Sprit/I'm long lived and eternal and give no crap about you motif.

Hey Grogimus, please do feel free to PM me anytime. I love talking leather. :)

Really nice work on the carving man!

I really need to get me a stone to do some more myself... and a new workbench, and... more time...
