For those that own multiple RMD's has anyone ever noticed that some of them have slightly different blade thickness and width? I received my 5th RMD today (Black Canvas w\Sage blade) and it is by far the thickest and heaviest of the 5. It's very noticeable and will not fit in my AZWELKE kydex sheath without forcing. My LE's are all slightly larger than the first non-LE that I purchased a couple of years ago too. Personally, I like it because it proves that they're truly handmade not some common production knife. I have to wonder if swamp is making the CG's thicker now though since it doesn't fit my sheath.

Also, this is my first RMD that Alex didn't sharpen and it's much sharper (David sharpened).

Yea they do vary, the rmd LE sheath is too small for my rmd black blade, black paper scales.

Yeah, I noticed that when my brother bought a CG model from a show about a year ago. I compared it to my older RMD and his had much more belly to it and then swooped up to a much pointier point than mine.

grind/sharpening (and polish for LEs) produce blade profiles that are not all alike, so measurements of blade width, length, weight will vary somewhat. I have two ScrapMax 460's that are certainly not identical. *shrug*

Also can vary depending on what thickness stock they are able to get at any given time.

Yeah, I got a black blade/black paper that fits perfectly in a Buy Brown taco sheath, and a tanker gray/black canvas that fits just right in a Mashedcat sheath. The black blade/black paper is thicker.

Almost all the rodent solutions and all the RMD I have made for local forum member on other forum has been different. This had been driving me crazy! So much that I will no longer be accepting sheath orders without the knife. For the local forum member or people willing to ship no problem.
If someone plans on buying one and order kydex from a maker your just flipping a coin if it will fit or not.

Of the several RMD's I have, the thickness varies between the lot of them. The paper scales are thicker then the canvas in the handles as well. And I still love each of my RMDs even with their little variations.

This confuses me a bit...

I have only made a few knife-sheaths from kydex, but when doing so I wrap the knife blade in a thin layer of card-stock, like a cereal box, as my form. After pressing, retention on the handle is always too tight, so I heat up the opening until the plastic slides easily over a small portion of some prominent feature of the handle, bending away and so providing just enough retention to hold the knife secure in any position. Variations in handle thickness are accommodated by the bending of the plastic. The cardboard form around the blade accommodates slight variations in grind thickness and there is always enough space between the blade and the rivets to accommodate a wider belly. If the knife blade is too loose in the sheath (rattles excessively - some rattle is expected), simply heating the sides and pinching it tighter to the blade resolves the matter.

*shrug*

Again, I am NOT a professional sheath maker, but I am curious about how others are making their sheaths that they or their customers are unable to get the knife it was designed for (production variations and all) to fit...
