i have ordered a RMD LE, it will be coming soon, but it let me to make a choice: using RMD or RMD LE? RMD is coated , so it may defend the rust, but when i use it for cuting, i feel it not very smooth , maybe because it's a little thick, or the coat made it not very smooth on cutting.as i know the RMD thickness is .1875, plus coat will be 0.2, RMD LE is just .165
i just use it for lightly test, but never take it outdoor yet. so RMD and RMDLE, which do you prefer in practical use when you get outdoor?:)

The RMD LE will no doubt be a better cutter as long as you perform general maintenance and rust prevention, possibly give it a forced patina, and oild it up when you are done using it. Congrats, nice score

Satin blades are always better users. Just buy some black polishing compound and you'll be fine with regards to rust and patinas.

I don't care if it's actually "satin" or not, but I like a bare blade much more than a coated one for legit use, it just glides through stuff much easier, be it slicing or chopping/batonning, whatever. The coating will bind up or get debris caught up in it, this matters especially if you're gonna be doing anything around food or doing skinning.

But to me, not much looks better than a nice coating once it gets some good use on it :D

If price point is a matter there is always a thing called paint stripper, or sandpaper - use you RMD - remove the coating or smoothen it up with fine sandpaper, eventually it will come of anyways...
if money is not an issue the go with LE - the only drawback is that it will be more difficult to replace if that need ever arises...

I prefer uncoated knives for practical use. Just take care of the steel surface and you'll be fine.

Works for me.
