RMJ Little Bird?

I've seen them go for less, and more. I'm not sure how many were made, but I've seen wildly different prices, probably due to scalpers. If you really want it I'd snag it, though I'm weary of ebay in general as I just narrowly avoided another scam (for a laptop) again.

EDIT - I just realized one of the hawks I mentioned being sold here was yours, the same one you are selling on eBay with a starting bid at $425.00

I’m going to leave everything I originally posted below.

I think I remember those Hawks going for $300 or so when they originally dropped. I don’t think they were particularly rare or limited , RMJ did update the design every year since 2014 though. The most recent versions look nothing like the 2014 or 2015. 4140 alloy, G10 scales and a great sheath - not to mention that particular hawk has one of longer cutting edges in the RMJ range. The price for the hawk we’re talking about was a starting bid at $425.. I’m going to guess that it doesn’t sell and will be re listed.

$425 is probably a fair price if you can live with that.

Post a want to buy add here - there’s been 2 of the 2015 little birds sold here , under $400 in the past 4 months.

Not a little bird.. the Jenny Wren is closer to the 2014 or 15 little bird than the 2019 and beyond little birds are.

considering you lose 30% on eBay after fees that price is fine there. Sell it for less here make more and give someone a better deal. And sell it faster.

They originally were less expensive versions for people that couldn’t buy full price Tomahawks. I’ve seen them go from 300 to 425. Give or Take. The market is not hot right now.

Taking into account I could pick up about 75 to 100 old USA made hatchets for $425, I would say yes, that price is too high.
And I can pick up about 60 brand new Mora's for the price of one CRK Sebenza. Me personally, I'd still take the Sebenza. Nothing wrong with buying a pricey top of the line tool if you can afford it, especially if the design speaks to you in a way that a $5 axe head from bubbas flea market doesn't. I don't think this forum would exist if everyone just bought the cheapest most basic tool that could do the job.

While I’m enjoying the little bird copy,I would swap it plus $350 cash for a 2014 little bird. Cheap tools will always be cheap tools. Quality will always be most man’s desire. From a cigarette lighter to a woman, guys want quality if they can afford it. The American way.

Only the naive would say the 70 year-old axes you can buy used for pocket change at garage and estate sales are not equal or better to what is marketed and sold to hipsters today for hundreds of dollars each. The hipster can not own things without an identity, whether they are vintage or new, because they have no identity themselves, they need to borrow one from the material objects they own, or rip one off from a past era they never had anything to do with.

So if you enjoy new high end tools, you're naive and if you enjoy garage sale axes you're a hipster ripping off the past? Seems like there's no winning.

I’m headed to a neighborhood yard sale today 😉IMG_6638.jpeg

I was just about to ask someone here to tell me, a old axeman, exactly what this guy Halverson means when he keeps referring to someone as a "Hipster".
Thanks Mick for the picture. I remember these guys from the late 60's to the mid 70's. I would see them when I came out of the woods and went to town for supplies. Who would have thought they are still around and are now into axes !

I have to stand up for old hippies, even though Brent mentioned a hipster, which is not a hippy. You guys must have skipped history class.

Mick's photo is of a show hippie. Here's a real hippy. He traveled the world with a wife and seven barefoot kids. They lived off the land, putting on street-corner plays for pennies in villages from Morocco to Afghanistan. He then moved into the Pacific Northwest Rainforest and built a a bunch of cabins for him and his kids, using nothing but a vintage axe. No hammer. No saw. No screw driver. Just an axe and a grub axe for the garden.

I'm not putting down collectors. I'm one myself, as well as a user. But I know when I'm a collector and when I'm a user. I respect both.

Obviously, the only way you and your peers can win is if you put words in the mouth of those you debate. No surprise there.

No one is trying to win here dude, we’re all just nerds that like sharing ideas about different flavors of sharp objects. Of course a 70 year old axe bought for pocket change will probably do the job, but this forum wouldn’t exist if everyone was just looking for “gets the job done”, would it?

If you think I misunderstood what you were trying to say, please correct me but I responded to the exact words you used, I didn’t put any words in your mouth.

Maybe you should read your own posts here then, because you are the one who used the word "win" first a few posts back, which is the only reason I put it up in reference to your post. LOOOOOOOOOL

Clearly I meant it as a figure of speech when I said "there is no winning". If you can't distinguish between that and me saying we're not trying to "win" by attacking you because you're choosing the play the victim for some reason, then I can't help you.
