I picked a few of these up in 2015. I can't believe the prices these are getting and they are almost all listed as sold out on the web site. Are people buying these as collectors items? Mine are both dated 2015 and are NIB. Do earlier ones command higher prices?

What's the deal with these? Are they that good? Thanks for your thoughts.

RMJ hawks are really that good, they have a cult like following due to their durability.
Some of the older ones may be more valuable to a collector but since they’re continually improving the designs and steels used the older hawks aren’t generally considered more valuable than the newer ones.

The only difference that I believe we will see will be the stamped ones. In their current line up all of their blades are waterjet/cut but originally the Shrikes were heated and stamped. I was sorry to see them switch over to the more “pedestrian process”....don’t get me wrong I love RMJ a ton it’s just they were the only major producers that were stamping. The law and supply and demand will probably kick in and make them more valuable at some point.

As to whether they are 'worth' it, you'll get John saying his is, to him. You might get me, saying I think they're worth it, comparatively. And Del over there, he thinks his is better than brands X, Y, OR Z, for that matter. None of which means squat. The ONLY way to find out if they're worth it, to YOU, is to try one, and make your own determination as to whether it meets your needs, and if the price/performance ratio is fair. And you have to factor in budget. If your department is buying it for you, or you're getting a military/police discount, that's one thing. If you have money to buy one just to test against a bunch of other stuff you can afford, that's something else. If you have to save, or scratch, to afford one, that's a whole OTHER thing. And, unless you're in that 2ish% that will use an RMJ, or any other tool, to destruction, there are other less expensive options that will perform just as well in 99.9% of day-to-day, or emergency, use.

They were laser cutting and using CNC at least as early as 2017/2018
I seem to remember a video showing them as hot forged stamped. So I assume my 2015 versions are made that way? The 2015 Little Bird version looks like its made from plate steel. The Kestrel looks like it could possibly be stamped. I have no way of telling as any stamping seams and/ or forging marks have been machined away. I will ask RMJ and see what they say. Thanks

I think the shrikes are drop forged and the the grinds are machined.

RMJ makes the american tomahawk model 1. I know those are drop forged and then machined. The ATC Model 1 is my favorite RMJ made hawk. I have a loggerhead shrike too and its a beast.

I’m a fan, my favorites are shrike, Jenny wren, kestral feather and raider dagger. they rarely ever command more than retail, more often less.
