I could not sleep again, so I was out in the shop grinding. This is the result. 4 1/2" blade, 1/8" thick, 1 1/2" tall at the tallest point, 9" overall, with torched maple. I think these will look better with lot`s of forge scale left on.

Great stuff! That was quite the productive sleepless night!

The overall shape is very nice, and this knife definitely captures the classic roach belly design. It would look nice with some forge scale and one of your riveted sheaths - and perhaps with some filework on the spine. I'm thinking that it might look good with a bit more of a rounded transition between blade and handle.

Hmm, down the road a bit, I can really see getting one of these to compliment my Hudson Bay ...

All the best,

- Mike

PS - just throwing it out there - what about a roach belly tin knife?

Looks great! I really like the handle, but for me I think it looks a touch too much like your straight back hunter or straight back keppie.... what about thinning the belly at the tip? Just to make it a bit more distinct from the other blade design.

along the lines of this:

I like that! I think that when the one in the pic is all done I`m going to make it my giveaway for my 4000th post. It`s coming up fast!

That looks great. I imagine there are unending uses for that knife.

WOW! Boy did that make a difference! Not that it looked bad before, but....WOW. Looks fantastic John!

John and forum regulars thats a great roach belly you guys have come up with . I find it amazing that with the forum you have a built in consulting group . Two calm heads or more are always better than one . Involve and commit .

Some of my best designs have come from the guys here, for that I am very gratefull

Kick ass, drooling over here. Make them in 1/16" and 3/32" thickness to really capture the essence of their original and intended purpose, cutting, slicing food.

You know, I think I have a leftover piece of 1/16" x 1 1/2" stock left over from Jim`s Hiker Plus.;)
