This pic was taken about ten miles up the road from my place at about 7.00 am.a week ago.:D

You can imagine what it’s like for the unwary traveller at night without a bull bar. An adult Roo can cause about the same damage to a vehicle as a Deer.

Wow, nice scenery, Ian!
Yup, I can see why you need a bullbar! I hit a deer this summer in my little VW Polo and it got trashed pretty good! So did the deer, BTW!

Hi Bo,
They sure can cause some damage to a vehicle, though I’d rather hit a Roo than a Wombat, they are like hitting a large rock in the middle of the road.:D
Ian.

Yeah, but when I rode the bus around the Outback, every now and then you would feel a bump, asked the driver what it was and he just replied nonchalontly, hit another Kangaroo.

Sounds callous, but the bus driver was probably looking after the safety of his passengers. A couple of months ago, I swerved to avoid a big 'roo at 5:00 in the morning, and nearly lost control of the car. Next time, if I have time to think about it, I'll just brake in a straight line, and accept the inevitable. In almost 30 years of driving I've only hit four kangaroos, but we try to avoid it when we can!

Yeah, I have heard wombats are pretty massive! I'm sure it would piss the wombat off greatly if you hit it!:D

Bo,
A large Wombat stands usually a little under 2 feet at the shoulder, but they are built like Sherman tanks. I hit one in the middle of the night once in a semi trailer loaded with cattle, he ran out of the long grass and straight under the drivers side front wheel, the impact nearly threw me out of the window.:D

Kangaroos, I have lost count how many I have run over, mostly with laden trucks full of livestock, you have two choices.

1. try to pull up or swerve away from it, and have the livestock thrown all over the place, once you get cattle down in a truck, it’s a battle to get them standing again.

2. run straight at them, a good bull bar with a cow catcher at the bottom will usually pick them up and shoot them to the side.

Best score, probably about thirty in one night.:D :D

Had someone tell me how they ran into a horse out ther once, now that did some damage!
