No, this is not a survival adventure, but a road trip suitable for my lovely 6 months pregnant wife.
It was a good 200miles trip.
Started just north of San Diego, in beautiful Indian Country
The weather was kinda' threatening us
Seen some joy riders
Made it above the real, hard core desert: Anza Borrego State Park
Learned something
And in the actual park
some 30 miles away...in the bad lands - mad max country - if you look closely you can see the "got dirt?" boyz and gals racing at the bottom of this canion
We finally made it to the Salton Sea. Situates 226 feet below sea level, it spreads about 376 sq mi.
The lack of people or any other activity on its beach gave it a very weary vibe...
The salinity of the Salton Sea is rising, jeopardizing some of the species in it. The Salton Sea currently has a salinity exceeding 4.0% w/v (saltier than seawater) and many species of fish are no longer able to survive(thanks Wikipedia). That explained the smell....
And if it wasn't surreal enough, this was layin' 30 yards from the shore - hippy house of love?
It was a good 3/4 day trip. We enjoyed it.
Thanks for checking it out.
