Flight to another state, pick up car at airport, travel around through several other states, hotels and such like. Will have SOG Paratool, Opinel N°10, Bic lighter, small length of paracord, small roll of duct tape, LED flashlight, and AAA membership :-) . Missing anything? Consciously deciding not to bring firearm or fixed blade.

Maps, maps, and more maps. Road maps, hiking trail and park maps, maps to the best-rated restaurants...

And this guy's business card,

PS, have you called that number? When it first popped up on a matchbook in Breaking Bad, I froze the playback and called it. There was an outgoing voicemail message. Prob the same now.

Oh, well, Glock will never be an option for me as I'm a 1911 and revolver guy. I would do the SP-101 if I were bringing a firearm, but not this time. I will pack the extra pair of specs, though, so you saved my bacon on this one, BDMicarta!

The rest on your list is ready to go.

Good pen and notepaper (such as fisher spacepen and rite in the rain).

I used to do some backpacking and I remember seeing a list of gear in the back of a book. So I created my own list and it evolved into a packing list for all forms of travel. Of course it is on my computer now so before every trip I make a copy of the list, edit it to keep the things that I intend to take, print it out and use it as a checklist for packing.

On the road already and all the suggestions were good. Maps, smartphones, tablet, multitool, pocketknife, spare spex, meds, flashlight, lighter, duct tape, and lots of water and snacks. Thanks for the suggestions! But keep the thread going in case others want to check this out. I'd also add that having a bit more cash than you expect you'll need is helpful. And make sure you future readers pack chargers for all these electronic devices. I forgot my tablet charger so that one will be useless in another day or so! Good thing I have my new smartphone with charger.

Chargers!
On my list is to plug everything in to charge before I leave- phone, camera, computer, etc.
I also set my video recorder and make sure I have enough cash for the trip.
