I just received this boot knife from South African knifemaker Rob Brown on an order I placed back in 2010, and I thought I would share it here.

The fit and finish are outstanding, and the knife is quite nice in hand. But the buffalo hide sheath is really out of sight!

One thing I like is that the blade and handle are wider than I have typically seen on a 5 inch boot knife and this provides a much better fit to my hand, and probably most folks with larger hands.

Rob's knives are just incredible. So clean and precise. He's a pleasure to deal with as well and his knives remain, in my opinion, a true bargain relative to many of their counterparts in the genre.

good photographer as well, very clean.
I like the dropped handle.

Crisp, clean, cool!! Very nice addition. The buffalo sheath makes an awesome package.

Really a nice knife. The wood is equally spectacular. That Buff hide makes a really fine sheath (Paranee knows).

Rob Brown makes a great knife, and this one looks to be beautifully crafted as well...great grinds, nice taper to the tang....love his use of spacer material, technically precise and attractively rendered.

The sheath is very nice, but I would prefer something in sharkskin or buffalo by Mr. Pappy Long....the pattern that he has developed for Loveless style knives accentuates the handle while in the sheath much better than any other sheath maker(including R.W. Loveless) that I have seen, and is more secure.

Best Regards,

Congrats! Rob makes wonderful knives. That one is a beauty.............:)

It's been years since one of Rob's new knives made it onto this forum. And, as ^^^ these guys have allowed, it's worth the wait.

I own an South African Guild Show award-winning chute by Rob, which is very similar. :)

I agree with STeven on the sheath. Although the material  and build is wonderful, that type of buckling is often reserved for lower-end knives. This knife deserves even better. (Mine is the same thing.)

Ken, you have a taste for the BEST. :D Thanks for the post.

PS: Who the heck did that great photo? It's seamless. Damn them.... ;)

Very nice, Ken, I've owned a few of Rob's knives and they are extraordinary. I've still got a Chute in Ironwood that is as nice as any Chute I've owned.
STeven is right about the use of the spacer material, it really enhances the handle. The Buffalo sheaths are nice but not really a selling point to me.

- great bootknife, luuuuverly job.

He's a pretty tidy maker, eh..........got a couple myself
