Has been a while since I received this knife and should have posted a picture sooner. The maker is Rob Davidson, his web site is http://home1.gte.net/rocket05/ The knife has a heat colored BG-42 blade, heat colored titanium liners, damascus bolsters, and beautiful exotic ivory scales dovetailed into the bolsters. This picture doesn't really do it justice but the blade has a light purple tint and the liners a bluish tint. I never owned a scale release that I liked before this one, it is so intuitive to operate that I have been carrying it and using it. Maybe sacriligious on such a nice piece but it feels great in the hand and cuts like a scalpel. Rob is a great guy to work with and his prices are very reasonable. Thanks Rob!

Well looks like I have another addition to my want list, and it is all your fault.

How durable is the finish on the heat colored blade. That sure was some nice scrimshaw too.

Bo,

I have carried it for a couple of months and it does show some markings where I have not taken good care of it. Am going to send it back to Rob and ask him to Satin finish it. The heat coloring stays on better than say, BMs BT2, but is about like CrNi as far as durability. Looks great, but for a using knife, I feel satin is better. Takes a holds a wicked edge.

Wow chief! That is a beauty.

From what I can see Rob Davidson makes some really beautiful knives. I happen to have hooked up with him recently to make me a custom folding knife that is very unusual. It is going to have two locking blades, one of which will be a flexible 1 1/2 inch putty knife and the other will be a 5 in 1 style painter's tool narrowed to 1 1/2 inches. I've been looking for a custom maker to make me this thing for a while and came across Rob's site. He is wonderful to work with and will make stuff on a rush order basis if paying in advance. Rush order is 2-3 months and anything else is July 2001.

Looking at your piece I'm starting to get tempted to have him make me a regular folder instead. Something with integral lock and heat treated Ti handles.
