I just received email from Craig Wilkins to the following link posted by Jerry Hossom on KnifeForums. Kristine Simonich called Jerry to tell him Rob had been killed in an auto accident last night, on his way home from a hunt with his brother.

I'm not trying to turn this into a sideshow, and I know that you guys don't generally like cross-linking to other forums, but I just felt that everyone should know. Since Jerry has made the announcement and will be posting updates I hope you'll understand.

Right now I am just too much at a loss for words. I honestly don't know what to say. Here is the link:

That is really sad news about Rob Simonich. He was a very talented knifemaker. He will definitely be missed. My heart goes out to his family. I've lost relatives suddenly like that and its always a terrible shock.

Anyone know why the thread was closed? Surely the moderators can't be petty enough to let the cross-posting overshadow the magnitude of the loss. I mean, Rob was one of the greats when it comes to knifemakers. We should all be given the chance to express our grief and extend our condolences.

I feel like I just got hit in the chest with a sledge-hammer.

Rob ALWAYS had a smile on his face every time I saw him.

My heart-felt sorrow and prayers go out to his family.

We'll miss you Rob :(

Nick

I never met or spoke with Mr. Simonich, but every picture that I saw of him reminded me of a trusted friend.

He was the best of us. I'll miss him.

Godspeed, Hunka.

I don't really know what to say. All the best to his family.

So sad, our thoughts go out to his family. A true talent and nice guy, lost! Paul

The haunting part is that he was so young. It makes for a lump in my throat thinking about it.

I've got tears in my eyes as I type this. :(

Rob Simonich was one of the genuine nice guys in the business. I will miss him greatly, and will cherish the Simonich knives I currently own.

Small in physique but large in talent. Rob was genuinely kind. Saw it in his eyes. He will be missed by his legion of fans and friends from all over the world.

Even in the Far East, his fame as a knifemaker shines bright and true. We are all praying for him and his family.
