We called in at my wifes aunt and uncles house today and while we were there this Raccoon appeared.
At first he was happy to eat the nuts and seeds that had dropped down from the bird feeder, however he then found the bag containing the nuts and seeds and decided that he might as well rip a hole in this rather than messing about with the scraps !!!:D

As disgusting as those things are, they sure are fun to watch. Smart little suckers.

Pit my man, those little guys have caused more damage at my house than I care to remember. If I am not replacing a gable vent in the house or screens in the barn, I am out picking up trash or trying to put the feed back into the plastic "squirrel / racoon proof " barrel's . . . .
I guess it was a safe bet that the "Dynamic Duo" were not tagging along with you today . . . . . :D
Be safe.

Yep the raccoons can reap havoc when they put their mind to it. If a dog doesn't have practice hunting them then they can get themselves in trouble with a racoon who will do the sit on the back and claw at the stomach routine. Heard my share of a few folks losing their dogs that way.

Shoot em. I like looking at them as much as the next nature lover, but I have had to many bad run ins with them, sick ones and making a mess of my private property.
Having a good yard dog helps a bunch, but if that doesnt work, shoot them.
I did find a heart on one occasion, I had a family of them treed, and when I got up on a ladder, in the tree, I found 4 little thieves sitting on a branch looking back at me.
Man, the little ones are really cute! I had to let them all go. I penned up the dogs and they escaped after night fall. The next day, they were safely out of my reach.

If they were to be domesticated, I imagine they'd make incredibly smart, awesome pets. I love to watch em, but hate it when there's garbage all over my carport because they got into the garbage cans.

Yes, you might.

For about twenty minutes.

And then you would rapidly change your mind.

My GF and I pulled into a car camping spot and opened the trunk to get the stuff out. We literally walked 5 yards and started puting the tarp up. We turn around and a raccoon had went into our trunk and snagged our hot dog buns right out of the trunk with us 5 yards away. The little bastard.

Guard your food!

I've had friends that tried to raise one as a pet, without exception, they are a total PITA and turned very aggressive and mean as s**t when fully mature.

Funny as heck when little though! :D

Just for the record, Maisy flushed one out and chased it up a tree on her very first day in Canada......she hates em !;)

Was down across the line one summer with the family. We had stopped for lunch at a State Park.A pair of them totally bullied a couple of picnicers at the next table and took thier food. When they tried the same trick at my table, I hit one with a stick. You can imagine my iddignation when I was nearly charged and severely chastised for harrassing the wildlife by a Park Ranger.Go figure!Bigger smarter improved rats wearing a mask and hairy tail extension lol

I have zero kind feelings toward 'coons. I'll shoot them on sight.

My Son's pit bull got one a week or so back. The lad says the coon weighed 25+, and the dog killed it with a single grab and shake.
