First off I'd like to thank Robert for this wonderful knife at a great price .
This knife came to me with a blued(?) blade, a handle that was only mostly finished with oil , and rough finish . I have already polished the blade enough to remove the coating and polish it slightly . That is as far as I will go with the blade finish because this blade was made as a test for the black velvet line and has some rough forged marks in the blade .It now has the rustic look going ... I'll try to get pics linked later .
I have also started oiling the wood handle after sanding to a 1000 grit . It is starting to take a real nice sheen ,and the grain is filling up nicely .
More on the performance after this weekend . I'll also start on a leather sheath for it soon .

After the first weekend , my impression of this knife is still high . The Heat treat seems great ,it is still shaving sharp after cutting up a few boxes and cutting some carpet . The handle now has a very nice sheen and velvety feel due to many coats of tru-oil .I am still very imprerssed with this "$75"knife . The only things "wrong" with this knife is the grind lines aren't crisp, and the finish isn't collector quality . But this was a trial knife for the "black Velvet" line of knives so the finish didn't need to be there . Fot a user , and it will get carried and used , this is the perfect knife , one you are not afraid of using .

Cerberus ,I don't think I'll tire of this any time soon ...It's not often you get to own a knife from a maker like Robert for this kind of price .

After the first week , I still think this knife is a tremendous combo of performance and value . I have cut down over 70 cardboard boxes (22x19x24 size) and have sharpened it only once . It keeps a good cutting edge for a long time ,and sharpens back up very easily . I would like to get some pics posted ,if someone out there would do the honers ....

Does Robert Hankins have a web-site? That is the kind of custom that I like!! One that can hold a real good edge and is easily re-sharpened! Thanks!

Edd glad that blade is working well for you. It was definetly a user grade blade as it was not suppose to leave the shop. Mainly was constructed to test the components and how they would hold up. Hope it serves you well for many years to come.
Robert
