Robeson Info?

Just today I picked up a two blade Robeson. Here is what I know, or maybe what I think I know.

The main blade is etched with "ShurEdge" and under that "TRADE MARK".

The left side of the main blade tang is marked as follows:
ROBESON
ShurEdge in script font
U.S.A.

The right side of the main blade tang is marked:
622595
1995

Both blades are very thin and flat ground. They also taper very evenly from full thickness at the tang to the tip of the blade, making them look almost delicate.

I would really appreciate any further information such as:

Is this pattern still made?
What was/is the pattern called?
What steel was used for the blades?
What were the scales made from? They appear to be picked bone.
Are ROBESON knives still made? I heard Queen makes them. True?

I think this could become my favorite slipjoint, bar none. This is a really nice knife.

Thanks in advance.

Queen does make the current Robeson knives. The old Robeson were made in Mew York state, I think. As for your other questions, a picture would help greatly.

you have a Hawbaker muskrat,Coastie. The steel is probably 420hc and it has red jigged bone scales. Right about the scales?
Yes, Queen makes them. They own the name.
There is a history of the Hawbaker knife in Jim Sargent's Guide to knives and Razors. Interesting.
Yes, they sure are a perty knife.

If it wasn't for my neighbors cats, I'd have to buy targets.

I can't post a picture 'cause I don't have a scanner or a digital camera. I don't want one either. Don't really like computers any more. Guess I have just been using them too long. I am reverting to my childhood and re-discovering the fountain pen.

Birdog:

Right on about the red jigged bone scales.

About the blade steel I don't know. Just bought another pattern Robeson. It came in a the original box. Actually it was NIB from 1994. My dealer has bunches of old, NIB knives in the cases. Anyway, the end of the box had a sticker with the pattern nr. and on it was printed Queen Stainless. Last week I called Queen and was told that Queen stainless was 440A, at least from the middle on the 90's, when my knives were made.

Anyone out there with more info on Queen/Robeson/Schatt & Morgan blade steel?

Mike

Mike...here is the little I know FOR SURE...Robeson ShurEdge Pocketeze in Tan Jigged Bone and Strawberry Bone are all ATS-34...Schatt & Morgan are mostly 440A 'cept for some of the "Series" knives...the Tenth Anniversary Series is ATS-34...that I know...SOME of the 4th and 9th Anniversary Series MAY be ATS-34...you would need to get more info than I have.

Of course the new Queens are D2..my favorite stuff next to INFI :)

Old Coastie, I happened on one of these knives a short time ago and
your are very correct. It is a very nice knife. I liked it so much I bought
it as a Sunday & vacation knife. Really is a very nice knife..........

Unfortunately, Queen has discontinued the Robeson line this year. The factory rep told me that it is likely they will bring it back in a few years though.
