I just ordered the Byrd Robin. I think it will be a great watch pocket knife although the Dragonfly living in there now will be a tough act to follow.

Does anyone have a Robin?

Hi,

My two Robins (PE & SE) arrived today along with Finches & Firebird. I think the Robin is just outstanding. For a while, it it goinbg to be my EDC knife. If you haven't ordered one, get going!

Hi,

I've never done a review before, but I'll try.

The Robin is about 3 7/16" long closed. As delivered, it is tip up carry (although it can be switched). Tip up gives you the comet hole right out of the pocket for opening. I have medium sized hands and find it delightful to open.

The clip has a flat starter edge. Need to watch the car. The size is such that it fits nicely in the watch pocket of my LL Bean jeans. The knife does have a lanyard hole for those into that type of carry.

The blade is approximately 2 1/2" long. The cutting edge ia about 2" long. There are nice upper and lower choils that have great jimping (laser cut perhaps?) to give good thumb purchase and to keep the good old index finger off the sharp part. The lock is very positive on the plain edge that I am carrying. I know some criticize the David Boye dent on these knives, but I'm glad it is there. The SpyderEdge version that is in the display with 19 other Byrds is most impressive as well.

As far as weight, the knife appears to weight around 3 1/4 ounces. This is great for EDC in dress pants or the jeans watch pocket. I do hope Spyderco will do a FRN version to drop the weight a tad more.

Will this be my EDC forever? Probably not as there too many great Spydies and other knives out there. However, it the short term, I really like the Robin. Better get one quick.

Cheers - Joe :)

BRAVO very nice review.

I think it will give my Dragonfly a break from watch pocket duties for awhile.

NGK has it on its way already.:D
