The Saguaro is one of the new folding knives by Hanwei under the Rock Creek brand. The Rock Creek lineup consists of both folders and some very nice fixed blade knives too. The Saguaro is actually one of several similar models, which share the same blade (and steel), but have some differences. Two less expensive models come with stabilized leather scales and one of those has a thumb stud. I picked the Saguaro because I liked the look and shape of the wood scales. There’s also a more expensive model (The Sitka) , which has wood scales and engraved bolsters. The wood scales are advertised as being rosewood, but they looks more like Chu wood. Maybe someone from Hanwei / Paul Chen will chime in.

I’ve been carrying this knife for a few weekends and used it for a week straight while I was on vacation. It doesn’t have a pocket clip, but it is small enough for in-the-pocket carry and has a bail to attach a lanyard. Because of the shape and size of the blade, it performs like a much bigger knife.

The fit and finish of this knife is amazing for a knife costing $45.00. The design is simple and clean and the finished product is perfect. The knife locks up solid and the blade has a nice satin finish. The stainless steel frame and blade is thicker than most knives in this size range, yet the knife is not excessively heavy.

Some of the other folders in the Rock Creek lineup feature clip / spear point blades and pocket clips, I’ve got my eye on the Glacier model, which has a clip style blade and weighs 5 oz.

Specs
• Forged HWS-2K Spear blade (this is a proprietary steel made by Hanwei)
• HRC 58-60
• Hollow ground from 1/8" stock
• Solid stainless steel frame
• Rosewood handle
• Bail for belt clip
• Overall size 4 1/8
• Blade Length 3”
• Weight 4 oz

I just bought one of these as a going-away present for a friend. It arrived yesterday. Because it's a gift, I won't be able to try it out, but it looks and feels great. I chose it because it is the closest thing to a Shilin cutter, the exquisite Chinese knife made by one or two craftsmen in Taipei, Taiwan. The blade is not exactly the same shape as the Shilin cutter, but it's close. I think this is truer to the Shilin style than is the Spyderco Bob Lum Chinese.

The blade shape makes it a very versatile knife. It's not very big , but IMO it would make a great small game hunting knife. I've carried it a few times but haven't used it too much.
