Rock Island's three day auction finished up today, with the last five hours being devoted exclusively to custom knives.

Bottom line - low prices, no surprises.

Best,

Bob Betzner

EDIT: I snagged this one.

GOOD for you, Bob...been rather a banner year, eh?

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Yes, STeven - and I had been looking for this particular knife for a few years, only knowing that it originally had gone to Europe when first made in the late 80's.

Then it pops up in this auction.

Happy dude here.

Best,

Bob

Congratulations Bob.

I bet RIA has a fat bank account after this weekend.
That was a huge firearms/knife auction. ;)

Well, one '73 Winchester went for $240k. But if it weren't for the economy, I think it would have been more like $350k. But who's counting?

Yeah, it was one major auction in the overall. I watched the entire day, today, and it was really great. From 1911A1's, to very special M1 carbines, to, well, just about anything.

I was really impressed with some of the 1991's that were on the first page of the website and I didn't even look any deeper other than going to the knives section.

Bob, congrats on yet an other "grail" knife.

If you want to see the results you can find them on proxibid, and if you search for knives within the auctionresults you will get only the knives, instead of all the results:eek:

Some real nice daggers went for amazingly low prices!!

Marcel

CONGRATS Bob! That was one of the standouts in that group no doubt!

I was VERY surprised to see some of the results. Some GREAT buys were made.

Marcel -- got a link for the realized prices as the main website does not show them yet. I had thought about getting involved but did not. Maybe another time. Don't think I'll get to Guild. Had thought about Ohio Classic but have not made a decision. Awkward only coming down for couple days if one wishes to buy anything Customs wise.

Nice piece, Bob, certainly of great historical value
to anyone seriously collecting Curt's knives...

When will you get yourself a subscription to the likes
of "FotoTime" and show your pictures properly?

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

Wow, thanks David. It's great seeing it in the supersized version!

One day I'll get FotoTime, I suppose. I've just never been one to display most of my collection in any public fashion. But I should get an image hosting site, nonetheless, to make something like this a bit easier.

Thanks again!

Bob

VERY nice picture David! But as nice as it may be, that was a knife I had the pleasure of holding down at Blade. That would be one of the times when a picture doesn't reflect the true beauty of an item, IMHO.

It really is a jewel of a knife. You must be VERY pleased to have it Bob.

Peter, all I did was re-post (via FotoTime) Bob's picture of
the knife from post #1.... :)

All the best,

Peter-

Now that is REALLY cool that someone I know, from here on the forum and CKCA, actually had the experience of holding this baby. Shortly after Blade, which I missed this year, I heard the dagger had suddenly emerged from obscurity, with the Rock Island offering yet to come.

I'm really looking forward to getting this one, more than any I can remember in a long time (other than the Main Gauche). Thanks very much for the comments.

Bob
