So I was playing with my new rock lobster when it occurred to me why was this never in the salt line? It is called the rock lobster (saltwater critter) so it kinda made sense to offer it in the salt line ? Oh well to late now!

One possible reason is that the Rock Lobster has a FFG blade and, while it's possible to custom grind a FFG H-1 blade, producing FFG H-1 blades in a production setting is not feasible. Changing the grind may not have been acceptable to the designer. H-1 and rustproof hardware would also have added to the cost of what was already a fairly expensive knife. Plus, plain edged H-1 offers poor edge retention, and serrated collaboration models sold so poorly in the past that Spyderco finally wised up and stopped offering them about ten years ago.

Are there "new" rock lobsters out there? I've been wanting one of these but if there are new ones around I slept through the offer.

It hasn't been re-issued, if that's what you mean. However, I know there's at least one "full MSRP" dealer who still has it in stock and, depending on whether you consider a second hand but unused knife as "new", I'm sure "LNIB" Rock Lobsters turn up at least occasionally on the secondary market as well. As for the statement you quoted, "new" can also be relative. Even a well used knife, gun, car, etc, can be the "new toy" of someone who just purchased it.

OK - gotta find that one. Thanks.

I'd like to find another 1! I got a great 1 great condition but it never hurts to have more than 1 when it's your favorite pocket knife!
