Well it's finally completed...What an epic! Had to learn a lot in the course of making this knife. But for me the biggest deal was at long last making my own blade (From now it'll be sole authorship for me). I probably made over 2 dozen practice blades out of cheap weld steel before tackling the damascus...Even practiced drilling the holes (those 4 suckers need to be dead-on accurate within .001" if the blade is to sit out perfectly straight). I had to teach myself how to drill a stright hole!;)

The blade is Norris Stainless Damascus (it's not blue as it appears in some of these pics). Carving those wings was a real picnic...especially in between the wings and the blade! Many, many hours!!!

Musical note inserts are 416SS with Snakewood inlay.

The black area around the instruments is baked enamel (that was a real bitch!...had to re-do it 6 times, carefully digging it out each time) Drove me nuts!

I relplaced the latch on the end with one I made out of 416SS...Wanted larger area to carve an "F-Hole" (such as you see on hollow bodied guitars and violins).

Hope you like it:

Here's the "F-Hole" I carved on the end of the latch. It's about 3/8" x 1/8" in size):

Dayum. Words fail me. I'm not really a huge fan of butterfly knives, but this just rocks. Very well done, sir.

What an amazing project! If I had to pick *one* area that really nails me, it's those saxes!

Way to go, Dennis!!!! :D

Well I've been reading about this one and waiting to see it for a while now and absolutely been worth the wait, beautiful, beautiful knife Dennis. Very original piece of art with I'm sure, a whole lotta love, blood, sweat and tears built into it. Anxiously waitng to see your next. Dave

Much thanks to everyone.

I have no idea how much time went into this knife...but it was a lot! I had a vision of how this would turn out and had to ramp up on a number of new skills and techniques to pull it off. I enjoyed every minute of it!! ;)

With the success of this knife (and new-found fascination with the inherent symmetry design issues of a bali), I've decided that my next knife will also be a balisong...albeit a rather unusual one (you'll see). I'll keep you posted.
