Rock Polishing Request

Not sure where to post this... I have a few rocks that my family collected on the North shore of Lake Superior and some of them I believe are agates. I thought it would be cool to get them polished. Since I know nothing about polishing rocks nor do I want to go out and buy the tumblers, etc.. needed for such an endeavor I thought I would see if anyone did this as a hobby and would polish them for me. My wife and I have a few rocks we want to polish too. We went into the local shop and asked if they would do it. The guy explained that it wouldn't be cost effective as you have to tumble them for months to get a good polish. We ended up having him grind down one side which looks good but it's only one side. I'm also interested if someone would do this.
