Anyone here own and use a Rock Salt? If so, please post your thoughts on its performance.

Thanks,
Jason

I have one and even though it is very pricey I would recomend it for sure. At 9oz. you can carry it on long trips and the long blade lets you baton through good sized wood. I have used it quite a bit and the H1 steel holds up quite well and is supposed to be very tough. I did a bit of digging with mine in rocky soil for bulbs and got only minor dings to the edge which were sharpend out in minutes. As for chopping, it does not have the mass to be an amazing chopper but the nice hollow grind enables it to slice in deep on green wood and cut veggies well. I like the kukuri shaped blade too, it looks cool and it allows me to drive down with a lot of pressure on the front of the blade. To sum it all up: Get one!
Cheers.

Klar,

Thank you for the mini review. I appreciate you taking the time to post. Sounds like the Rock Salt would make a great outdoors companion.:)

Take care,
Jason

I just noticed your user name is tatsu, thats realy funny because my dog is named tatsu. dragon in japanese. thats funny!

I'll give it another . I've had mine since Dec. 08 and love it. It is a great, lightweight fixed blade that can easily go from general camp/outdoors duty to kitchen duty. The big plus is, you don't have to worry about cleaning up the blade at all - use it, dirty it up and stick back in the sheath till you need it again. H1 holds a decent edge and is fairly easy to get hair-popping sharp. It doesn't do too well against concrete though and I managed to chip the edge in two places by carelessly chopping too close to that hard stuff. Good news is, the minor chips have not affected blade performance at all. Overall, it is a fantastic outdoors/survival knife and I highly recommend it!

I had the chance to hold one recently and I would have to say the Frn handles on the Rocksalt IMHO are not at all comfortable to hold. They are very similar to the FRN pattern on an Endura and I could imagine that after a day's use one's hand would have blisters.

The Rock Salt is just one of those special spydercos you can't pass up on....Its a great outdoors tool and a terrific SD weapon.....H1 is an added plus....Doc:D
