Hi guys!

I found this Keen Kutter Rockaway on eBay, and bought it to restore for my dad as a Christmas gift.

I noticed what looks like a small crack at the top of the eye. It looks pretty old, but I was hoping to get some of y’all’s opinions. Is it a problem? If it is, is there any way to fix it? Thanks for looking boys :)

Looks like a forge weld that either didn't fully close of could have been opened by someone using the axe as a wedge. May not be a big deal. Can we see a photo of the entire top of the axe? Is the eye wide?

Looks to be in decent enough condition overall.

For the mushrooming on the poll, I'd wrap the bit with a wet towel and heat up the poll with a torch ( doesn't have to be glowing red or anything) so you can pound as much of that steel back where it belongs and avoid removing too much of that steel.
The least amount of grinding or filing you can do aside from sharpening that you can do the better.
Just adress the mushrooming, wire wheel the rust off , and sharpen it.
This is a beautiful old head with lots of character and patina.
