I just finished my friend Don's Christmas present. I think it will be worth the wait.
It is a blend between a large fillet knife and a wakizashi. Don fishes a lot and loves Japanese blades, so it was a natural progression.
Specs:
OAL 17.5"
Bade length - 11"
Blade - San mai with 52100 core and 1084/15N20 sides
Copper and ebony spacers, copper habaki
Matching mosaic rivets and thong tubes.
Blade grind is the same as a shashimi blade - thin chisel grind.
Handle - Old Growth Brazilian Rosewood - from Bill Moran
