I'm sure this video has been mentioned here before but I didn't see it in a few minutes of searching.

This defies belief. ZDP-189 taken to rc67. I would not be able to sharpen that knife if I had years to work, but after watching the video it seems that it wont need to be sharpened for decades. Just wow! Opinions welcome!!!

There definitely amazing! I'm going to blade show, so I might get to handle one...I wonder if they'll be sharp?:D

outta control! i wonder what he wouldve had to do to actually affect it. 3000 cuts? more? crazy.

I would also like to see how many cuts it takes to actually dull the blade.

How many of you watched the entire 43 mins? :D

EDIT: Everybody should own a Rockstead at one point...only then will they stop bitching about how hard D2 is to sharpen :D

That's impressive; I don't think most of the steels on the market can even touch that, at least none that I have seen.

Older video....

That's push cutting people and with a polished edge and edge geometry optimized for that purpose....

Not really all that impressive, the steel doesn't matter as it's just a marketing show for a wow factor.

If those were draw cuts they would have been lucky to get to 200 cuts max with that edge before it was too dull to cut that paper.

Reminds me of a similar cut test a company did on AUS-8a. 67RC is within ZDP-189's RC range. Doesn't Spyderco run theirs 64-65? M4 can approach that RC also.

William Henry claims to have their ZDP-189 run to 67, but they use it as a core for damascus or other steel, to give the overall blade some flexibility. Mine are sharp as hell, and they really hold their edges, but I haven't done any scientific tests or anything. I mean, they are small, gorgeous, and expensive knives :)

Around 64-65 usually.

There are a lot of steels that can reach that higher RC range really.

Not saying that the knives aren't good or anything, it's just that demonstration really and doesn't show anything for those who know better.

Busse did a similar demonstration live using INFI and a Battle Mistress years ago.

Cold Steel also did it with an SK-5 Trail Master....

Yah can't some of the simple carbon steels run pretty high hardnesses? Seems I remember reading that steels like 1075,1080, and 1095 can be ran decently high.

Yeah they can, much higher than is normally seen due to the typical use of the knives made out of them.

fwiw, Hartsfield took his A2 to 65 Rc.
I still want to check the prices on these Rocksteads.

I've seen him whack bamboo over and over at Blade, and the knife will still slice paper like in the video.
He was whacking the bamboo hard and often, and I was supprised there was zero edge damage.
Most all ZDP189 is hardened to 65-68. Thats what it was designed for.
