Been looking for a Japanese folding knife, while searching I have came across rockstead! Didn't know the company until now! What beautiful knives these are! My question is.... How good are they? I'm particularly interested in the TEI-ZDP due to get fact it's the same shape as a Japanese sword :D

These $2k liner lock knives are infused with mystical powers of . . . marketing. Invoking the natural power of the clamshell shape and giving vague nods to a magical Japanese sword making heritage, the marketing is indeed powerful. Combined with their bamboo-whacking videos Rockstead is sort of a weird combination of CRK and Cold Steel, the cult-like status symbol mixed with the voodoo marketing machine.

The few I've handled have been very nice, if sort of basic. The polished blades are beautiful, at least until you touch them (pretty, but they're fingerprint magnets).

So there a waste of money then? 😬 I knew the performance of the knife wouldn't reflect the price tag, but I was expecting a very good knife for the money. So really there no better than a £400 folder?

They're very well made knives, but any assessment of value versus cost would be a matter of opinion (we're talking about luxury items here).

Just don't watch a bamboo-whacking or car hood stabbing video and start believing there is anything magical about some knife company's knives. The easiest way to tell that a marketing or sales person is lying is to see if their lips are moving . . .

They are tremendously well made knives crafted from very high end materials in some unique designs. And really, really expensive. If you have the means, they don't disappoint.

The thing that sets Rockstead apart is its incredible focus on the blade and edge. Some people are very happy with their Rocksteads others are not. However the quality is there, even above CRK.

I think they are fine knives. They are not to my tastes but Im not going to hold it against them. But even if they made exactly what I wanted I would have a hard time paying the prices their products command. Imho if the aesthetics and features please you then i would think tthe quality would be very much up to most peoples standards. And the few odd occassions i have heard a complaint I question the persons qualifications to assess such a product.

Will rockstead be at the British shooting show or knives uk this year?

Check out the Rockstead website, I remember seeing a show schedule last time I was there.

Edit: I checked the schedule and the only non U.S. shows are one in Germany and one in France.

I've been interested in these as well. It's very unlikely I'd be able to handle any in person before purchasing. I'd love to go to a show, it would be a tough choice to make going on spec's and pic's.

I thought Rockstead was a bit to much hype, and not that much better than than my CRK's or Hinderer's, now way they could surpass my Shirogorov's... but then I bought this:

Once you actually have one in you hand, well then it all makes sense and almost every other knife shrinks in comparison.. just sayin :)

Rocksteads make CRKs look like budget dime store socking stuffer knives

The blades on Rocksteads are utterly insane.

I decided to play it safe, I have no experience with the steel so I did some research on it. It seems that some love it others hate it, so instead of spending a hell of a lot of money on a knife that I may end up wishing I never bought, I have bought the Spyderco Delica ZDP189. I'll give this a good run before deciding what I think of the steel. Fingers crossed it's a good un' for my needs
