There is a guy local to me who is retiring and selling off his machine shop. He has a Fuel Instruments and Engineering rockwell hardness tester. I can not find any information about it but it seems to be in really good shape. While I would love to have it, I am just starting out and I'm sure putting the money towards a quality grinder would be a much better idea. So I thought I would see if anyone here might be interested in it. I wouldnt mind picking it up and shipping it if anyone wants it, as the man is in his 80's and is just looking to sell everything local. Let me know if anyone might be interested!

I might be interested. Of course, I have no idea what one of these things costs. Any ideas what a fair price is, and what shipping to California would be?

Hi,

I have no idea what a fair cost is...Like I said I couldnt even find much about it on the internet. Also, I'm just going on what he is asking for it and I was offering to ship it to someone if they wanted it. I would say from the size and weight with a good package job would cost probably $30-35 to ship? I dont know about saying the price on the forum and if it might be a no-no? If its ok I'll tell what he is asking, if not just email me.

I really need a tester!!! Let me know what kind it is and a price.........does he have test blocks?

I looked around online and couldn't find any information, either. A bunch of "Fuel Instruments & Engineers" sites show up relating to India, so is this product made in India?

big question, is it in C-scale? does he have other machines for sale? I'm not exactly local, but it's less than a day trip

Hey Tony,

He has 2 large lathes that I would love to have but are too big, heavy, expensive, overkill for anything I would do. He has various punching presses. Also a lot of misc stuff. I think he has a drill press, various taps, dies, fasteners, micrometers, etc. I know hes got some other tools just not positive what. He also has a small stock of metal...mild steel, stainless tube, aluminum, and some O1. The O1 is in big stock...2x2" bars, large diameter rods (1 1/2" ?)...stuff that could probably be forged down...but I dont know if he has enough at a good enough price to warrant the trip. He has sold a lot but still has a ton of stuff that is acquired in 40 years as a machinist. Also I have no idea if the RC tester is C-scale?

Brian, no problem. I did a quick search and it looks nice. I found it kinda funny that the only store I found carrying it was amazon.com of all places...probably my crummy search terms though :D

If he's selling off his measuring tools, I sure could use a decent vernier caliper. Then that'll give me a chance to ask even more questions about how to use it! :) If you know what kind he has and how much he wants, drop me an email. Thanks!

Hi,

I was actually looking for a nice set of dial calipers but he didnt have much except a cheap chinese pair. He had a bunch of micrometers in different sizes and quality but without researching some, I'm not sure how good of a deal they were. About the best he had was mitutoyo and not too many of them...
