I am undertaking the model construction myself. I dont have the knowledge nor the tools, but my desire is too great.
So, I am going to come up with the best model I can make and I will submit pictures of it when it is finished.
IF everyone agrees on it being close enough, I will send uncle Bill the model and plenty of pictures and measurements.
If you have some helpful suggestions, fire away.
OK?

Sounds good Danny. Look forward to seeing what you come up with. Will keep watching.:)

Danny.

IMHO you might need Rod to give you the exact detail specs of his Hanshee Model. Those data would surely provide a lot of help for you to come out with the closest replica of the original Khuk.

One of these 3D-scanners connected to a CNC tool would be great...

Anyone heard from that technology?

I have a paper cutout of the knife in full scale and full color.
I have two pages of full color photo paper pictures of the knife from every angle.
I just don't know where to go next.
I can glue the cutout to a piece of stiff cardboard, but I'm not sure how much more I can do without a woodshop or whittling skills...

Danny,
Sounds to me like you need to pay a small Aluminium prescion casting firm to make you an accurate copy. I am sure Rod would be able to organise it if you paid the costs.
Thats if you hope to have anything remotly like the original! I hate to think what you will get if you send the kamis a cardboard cutout!

Yikes!

A 20" 25oz Hanshee!

Good luck Danny...If it turns out well, I'll surely jump on the bandwagon and order one myself!

Danny,
Send all the info to me if you want. I made the M-43 model the Hanshee shouldn't be a problem.
I do have quite a few orders to finish before I could start on it though.
I will need the blade thickness and handle measurements.
God Bless.
Terry

Hey, Pan Tau: My bro has done similar work. He is a mechanical engineer, and he uses CAD drawing tools to render a 3D model, which he can then send to a modeller for CNC. He makes housings for medical devices.

Casting would be quite expensive if done by a precision company, because cutting molds is really expensive (starting in the 10s of thousands of dollars, more often in the 100s or milloins).

Ferrous, You are correct that cutting molds is very expensive but you can find some prescion casting firms use sand or even better lost wax process to copy the original , then it should cost peanutes as its a couple of hours labour for one man!

Danny.

Terry is considered very familiar with various types of Khuks and one among the experience persons in woodcraft arts of making khuk handles & scabbards. I guess Terry's offer to come out with a Rod Allen Hanshee model is a sound one.

Danny,
I recieved the pics today. I need the measurements(in inches) for blade thickness at the bolster and the tip. Also needed are measurements for the width of the handle at the bolster and butt.

God Bless.

Holy Toledo. Another special project!

We'll order two first and see how close the kamis come. If they do it right (doubtful) we'll take orders for production run.

If a Autocad Drawing is needed let me know, I can get very close say with in a 1/4" of the original from a picture, all I need is the overal length.

John I have not forgotten the chirras I will be working on the this weekend.
