The prototype looks great, but if it is possible to tweak the production model a little bit, then here are the desired tweakings:

Narrower blade
Cho next to bolster
Normal bolster
Narrower, rounder pommel

Damn kamis anyway!!!! Can't follow directions fer shlt!!!! :grumpy:  :grumpy:  :grumpy:

the drop is the same, it is just the pics and the prototype had a fatter belly than the original, all in all though, it looks great to me and i would be more than happy to take it as it is.
I just wanted to offer specific corrections for everybody on the list who wanted the rod allen hanshee.

Thank you, Danny (And I like the PJ's as well.).

And that's the reason I hate to tackle these special orders right now. The only way they will do it exactly as we want is if I'm there in the shop stopping work when I see them take their artistic license. Sometimes if I raise enough long distance hell they'll do it as we want but right now I don't have the energy to fight with them.

like i said, its great as it is uncle bill, thanks!

(i mean it, the differences are tiny and unimportant)

Is there a sign-up sheet for one of these babies? I do love the lines of a hanshee :D
I don't think we'll see one on the UBBB list soon.
;)

I am still up for this special order. :D I can play with the finishing touches once I get it.

I hope the guys at BirGorkha can get much closer to the original design. The big difference between hanshees and sirupates beyond the obvious are the subtleties. No wonder Bill has ulcers, headaches, nightmares and too many special orders.

I'd like to find the guy who started making these monstrous bolsters and...

Danny, great drawing. Did you have training in industrial design?

Uncle Bill, I don't blame you for not wanting the hassle, especially now. I guess they are truly artists at heart and that's both the good part and the problem. If they were just workers carrying out another task then they wouldn't care which way they did it and would just do as they were asked.

However, given the fact that you are their sole connection to their buyers I think they should cut you some slack without you having to bug them constantly!

Reminds me of a guy down the road here on Highway 68 (Sweet knows the spot I'm sure.) He is a real artist and makes his living carving giant bears and other figures out of big chunks of redwood. Some of them weigh thousands of pounds, and he is a real master. But he refuses to take special orders of any kind. You either buy what he chooses to carve or go without. He got tired of creating sculptures only to have the buyer say it wasn't _exactly_ what he wanted. Can't blame him I guess.

I have my eye on this beautiful pair of leaping dolphins he did off a big redwood stump, but don't have the $3,000 he is asking right now. Considering the number of hours he put into it, that is actually a pretty fair price.

John, I printed out the prototype pic and cut it out with scissors to the shape that fit the original, then I glued it together, scanned it and voila!

thanks anyway...

can someone send burafan an email and let him know these will be available soon ?
The Hanshee arrived just now in the mail and I like it alot!
It is really very good and I think it should be part of the HI standard offerings.
It is very sensual and serpentine.
This thing is made for fighting.
I am gonna give it a japanese polishing and darker stain on the handle and put some pics up by this weekend.

I am happy with it the way it is.

If you guys want to sand the pommel down to the original Rod Allen design, go right ahead.
I bet you are happy with it as it is though.

Really nice Uncle Bill, please send my compliments to Sher.

Danny, thanks very much for adding me to the list. Looks like a very cool addition to the HI line. Hope it takes off.

Regards,

Norm

personally, I like the prototype....habaki and all...sweet lil' guy.

re: industrial design

one of the majors where I went to school....we shared a building with those guys...they spent the entire day, every day in one large room. Relationships started and halted there....one person got sick, everybody was sick. Crazy place....but they built a car prototype that won a heckuvalotta prizes and put my lil' school on the map!
