Rodan flying high?

Now that the Condor Rodan is available (and for an amazing price, too), I’m thinking of getting one for my buddy.

Looking at the specs, I see that it’s 1075 carbon, and that brings up a few questions:
how does 1075 compare to 1095?
how’s the heat treat on these?
what’s the Rockwell hardness?
how well would it hold an edge compared to 1095?

I would also like to know the thickness of the blade. The place I’ve looked give the length of the blade, but not the thickness. And another question; does the price include the sheath? If the prices I’m seeing on the web do include the sheath, this has to be one of the best bargains around.

Anyone have one yet who can shed some light on this?

Thickness varies. They are all hand made. Around 1/8th but they will be thicker later.

1075 and 1095. No difference that I've ever felt, and I love 1095. You won't tell the difference.

heat treat is good
Rockwell is around 57-59

Thanks, Joe. I was hoping you were around and would chime in. 1/8th or thicker is great. I'm a big 1095 fan, but I've never had a knife in 1075 (that I know of). If you say I won't know the difference, then I probably won't. A good heat treat with a Rockwell of 58-60 would be great. I love my Becker BK-2 in 1095 at around that hardness, and if the Condor's come close, I'll be a very happy camper (pun intended).

Can't wait for mine! I have other more pressing things to grab right now, but it's going on the birthday/holiday wish list! :D

My birthday is a few months away but I asked for this one as a very early gift.
I insisted that it may not be available when birthday time comes.
You all agree with me right?
Right?
Back me up dammit!

I'm behind you, Tenbeers, 100 percent — I'm backing you all the way. Don't forget to do a review when you get it.

1075 is a lower carbon steel than 1095, for what it's worth.

Yeah, that much I knew. The last two numbers in a ten series steel tell you the percentage of carbon in the steel. What I didn't know, since I'm not a real steel mavin, is how much difference there would be in actual use. I had no idea of the difference (if any) in hardness, toughness, edge holding, corrosion resistance, etc. Joe, and a couple of other sources, are saying that there is no discernible difference in actual use. That begs the question of why use 1095 instead of 1075 for knife blades? It seems that, no matter how much I know, it's nothing compared to how much I don't know.

The Rodans came just now!
I ordered 2 of them.

No QC issues at all. Not one spec of rust.

Nicely ground points on both.
The edges should really bite after a little stropping but seem usable as is.
I do notice that one of the blades is thicker than the other.
One is about 1/8" the other around 5/32".
No worries.

The sheaths are very decent for the price. Another case of I've paid more and gotten less in the past.

I really like the handles.

I'll try to give them a workout ASAP.

Hooray, Tenbeers! Good score. Please do a review (you'll be the first, I believe), and let us all know what you think of them after a little use. For the price, these may turn out to be the best value on the planet (at least on my small planet).

Looking forward to more feedback.

Thanks, Yeah that Bushlore looks darn good.:D

Yeah, they're looking pretty good, especially for less than $30, with a nice leather sheath included; how can you go wrong (actually, I've seen them for as little as $20). Finding them in stock seems to be the problem, since they're so new.

Bushlore-
Spear point...based on the woodslore design (what people seem to call a bushcrafter around here)

Bushcraft basics- Just basic Puukko esque knives designed to be a full tang user.

And yes, I learned my lesson after naming these :)

Joezilla,

What is the blade thickness like on the bushlore vs the bushcraft?

Thanks,

Brandon
