How would everyone compare these 2 blades? Im thinking of buying an r6, but I think I like the differential temper of the m6 more. Not sure if I want to keep watching the exchange for an m6, or just order the r6 now, with a request to have the top guard removed. Anyone have any side by side pics of these? The more I use my knives, the more I think a 6 inch blade is the perfect size to have.

Have not seen M6 on exchange in good few months. R6 will definitely be easier to get.
With R6 you get a bit more of a blade length, somewhat more comfortable handle (M6 has wider handle without the palm swell R6 has)

Sweet thanks for the pics. Im probably going with the r6 because of availability. I just trust the diff. temper more. I wish we could get some feedback from the swamp about the difference in heat treat, and why they went to a through hardened blade. I love these knives, but I dont like the lack of info. about certain things.

The biggest benefit of DHT was that the knife could bend more with its softer spine and not get deformed, and I guess sock distribution would be improved too.
Modern steels are a lot more uniform in structure than they used to be 'back then'. The risk of your through hardened knife breaking are greatly reduced these days (unless you do some crazy stuff with your knives...).
I believe Busse have done some serious testing and decided that the performance of DHT'd knives was not that much different from non-DHT'd. That and a higher cost/complexity of DHT led to switching to through hardening of SR-101. There is no DHT'd INFI out there at all...
Most of DHT done these days is for the visual bonus of the hamon line.

The R6 feels really good in the hand. I had one done without the top guard and am quite happy with it. Plus, you can get it now at a better price than a M6...if you can find one.

Well I found an m6 through a guy I had bought a camp tramp from a month ago. Im thinking I might be better off with the m6 over the r6. Not to much difference in price either. More, but not much. I am pretty dam hard on things some times. But I still havent managed to break my rodent 4. I just love the thought of the DHT on the older swamps.
