Ok guys, need some opinions. I am on the fence about a Rodent Rucki, or a BWM
Basicaly, There is only one more knife I am allowd to buy this year. (My Wife has a lock on my pocket book, wich is a good thing) we are trying to move into a new place and I need to commit money to the cause. anyway, I do not currently own a big chopper knife. I love Big knives and have wanted one for a long time, I've decided I want a BWM, don't care about the handle/color combo. I do want an Arctic white Rucki with black g-10. and the pre orders are being taken right now! the factors i see are: How long will pre orders be available, how long will the rucki be available? If I wait for a rucki on the secondary market next year, will i be able to find the colors i want at that price? should I jump on the rucki now? Or, Should I wait till August when The Busse Crew get's here and see what they have in the Trunk? I know everyone likes to say "get them both" wich i plan on doing eventualy, but I'm looking for a "This is the last knife I'm going to get for a while" answer

By The Way, I Do Not have a Sword either, and I think the Rucki would have some awesome utility and tactical aplications.

Since you do not have a chopper already, I'd definitely go for a BWM as it will me a much more versatile knife that can do an OK job in a lot of different areas.

The Rucki is awesome, but just seems wayyy too specialized for a "last knife I'm going to get for a while" knife - you don't really see too many threads or mentions of people who carry or use the regular Ruck that often - seems more of a novelty fun knife, or truck knife, and less of a practical use knife...

Its a crap-shoot if you'll be able to get the Rucki colors you want on the used market, but I would still take a BWM any day of the week.

Sorry to ramble and... Good luck!!!

If you don't have "any big busse knife" yet....I would wait on both.

Save and get a B-10 from Busse, of 911 from the Yard. If you prefer a micarta handle, get the 911 from the Swamp. Those would be your best bets on price-to-performance...since you'll be able to get them directly from the shop.

that is good advice, the only bummer is we have no way of knowing when the big boys will roll out. Logic says all of the 3 companies are due for a big chopper, but there is no guarantee, they may not come out til Christmas....

Another vote for the BWM, a very versatile 'big' knife and light enough to strap onto a pack and take out

Here's a bad pic of mine strapped to a Maxpud Sitka, out near the mouth of the Kuskokwim river, visually monitoring water level. Just the handle is sticking out from under the binder. Not much to chop out that way, scrap wood for a fire and I dug a few holes with it.

I'm hearing what you all are saying. and it makes sense. but I'm starting to feel a stronger pull towards a rucki now. it's rediculous, theres something cool about the idiea of a practical sword (the rucki seems practical as far as swords go) i wonder what the difference is in chopping performance between a Big bladed knife and a long narrow sword? though I'm sure a big bladed knife would be easier to use on things like food and animals. but I do have some 5 and 6 inched blades for that.

I'm just worried that, no matter wich one i pick, I'm gonna regret not getting the other. I'm thinking that I should order the rucki, and get it at the best price it's ever going to be, then wait till one of the 911 or basic 10 comes out. by then, I could probably get away with the purchase :)

This will always be the case! I have bought and sold 10 or so. I have, right now, KZII, B11, SarQ, CABS, MUCK, BAD.

Everything covered except "sword" category!!!

I need a sword! AK, Ruck, Gladius, Chuckette, Dragon's Fang......pretty sure I need them all!

Every time a design is announce I am sorry I don't have the cash to pick one up. I will just have to learn to deal!

I'd say get the Rucki. Swords are a little harder to find on the secondary market & are at least $100 more than they were offered for from the shop. BWMs tend to come up more often. Oh, & good luck on that Chuckette!

Another vote for the Rucki!

The BWM as stated, come up on the exchange and online auctions quite often. Go for the sword now imo... you never know when the zombie apocalypse could strike ;)

Since your asking for opinions, I say... BWM all the way!!!

Cool factor aside, how often do you see yourself using a sword vs. a knife?
BWM's are light enough to go every where and big enough to do all the jobs of a camp knife, especially if you're only getting one.

Remember, in the end it's your dough, so get whichever is going to put the biggest smile on your face the longest.

Another BWM here, and as well as some good advice from Longknife3. Derek, if you show up at Birchwood Rifle Range I'll have one for you to try. 9 days Bro just 9 days till Birchwood.

You already know what you want - Go with the Rucki

Find one you like and buy it. There aren't as many Rucks out there as there are BWMs, that's why you don't see them here that much

The BWM is great too - it just depends on what you really want - first. Eventually you will end up with both

+1
I preordered an arctic white with black canvas Rucki :D and i am waiting for the other new releases; my plan is to get what I can when I can from the shop and then i can pick and choose and save for the older/grail type stuff and bide my time to find the combo I want. Plus a B10/SR911/SY911 will be probably be cheaper new than finding a BWM on the secondary market...
