I was recently in the beautiful mountains of Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil). It was a planned trip because I needed to get away from the Military Police, my other job (I'm Captain). The goal was an advanced stage with the first Brazilian Mastersmith Rodrigo Sfreddo.
This name needs no introduction as the world of custom bladesmith know very well their incredible knives. I intend to show you what most do not know.
Rodrigo founded his school of bladesmith in January 2009. Since then he has trained some 35 bladesmiths. It is important to say that this number means a large percentage of custom bladesmiths of Brazil. Our country is still in early stages of culture of this art.
The Mastersmith serves 3 students per stage, what we call it the VIP treatment. The school offers courses in levels basic, intermediate 1 (integral carbon knives), intermediate 2 (basic damascus knives and mounting frame), and advanced (integral knives in composite damascus), and one day of class.
Rodrigo Sfreddo is undoubtedly a genius of modern bladesmith.
He can unite perfectly all the knowledge left by the previous generations of bladesmiths to a new and original concept. Perfect design and innovative construction techniques are its main feature. There is no limit to your creativity and daring.
But their professional skills are not just these. He has great teaching technique and patience. If possible learn .... he teaches. The stages of learning are exploited fully. Nothing is left behind. No one leaves the course without mastering the full contents.
Recently renowned bladesmiths recognized their ability and advanced stages scheduled for early 2011.
He will certainly be a bladesmith that will make history and leave a new and impressive legacy to custom brazilian bladesmith and to world.
For those who want to venture into Brazil, I guarantee you will have the following: hard work, an exceptionalism reception and very knowledgeable in luggage.
All the best.

That does it! I'm moving to Brazil.

You guys are having too much fun, and getting way too good at this smithing thing.

Unique, beautiful, and very well done...!

Maybe I could hitch a ride with Mr. White....!!

Beautiful post Berardo, thank you. The school is an old dream, and the feedback has been wonderful! The students come to learn how to forge a blade, but we always end forging new friendships. The time spent there are always wonderful! The best thing that bladesmithing brought to my life is the friends I made, and sometimes I think that's why I choosed this...
Thank you again brother!

Best wishes,

Rodrigo

Congratulations Rodrigo It is good to see your dream come to life Perhaps we could get you to come teach a class over hear.

I only have praise for the knife art, Damascus art
and the comradeship among of you guys in Brazil.

Regular superlatives seem kind of repetitive so I'll not repeat
any of them here... :)

Eduardo, I see in one of the pictures that Tim Hancock's
book is popular in South America...:D

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

Dear Darom, the brazilians bladesmiths leading the work seriously seeking information on the best literature available. His books are prime example of this. I have four of them in my personal library. I buy books bladesmith constantly to keep me updated.
As I said earlier in this post, Brazil has a mature culture in custom bladesmith. So we have to compensate for this by bringing knowledge from outside Brazil.
Tim Hancock has a fabulous job that dispenses praise. I consider among the top 5 bladesmiths the world. I really like all the Tim's knives that I saw today. Are perfects.
PS: Following this thought if someone wants to learn the hidden techniques of the Berardo's secret style of fighting, call me !!!!!!

Thanks for posting the pictures Eduardo. Rodrigo is VERY talented and his school looks GREAT. I would like to go there too:D

Ok Victor, you're not as ugly as they say. Fortunately their knives are certainly very beautiful. I find you in September for the Show Nova Petrópolis and the Hammer-in.
