In 2007 I talked to Roger about making me a new knife, but because I had a special request it took a while before he could get started. My special request was that his son Isak would make a carved handle and because Isak is very busy with a demanding daytime job, designing video games for worldwide releases, it took some time.

A couple of months ago Isak mailed me this picture of his work and informed me that he was almost done.

With the handle almost ready Roger could go and start his part of the "job" and yesterday I received an email from him with a couple of pictures (unfortunately not the best quality).

The handle is legal elephant ivory. The blade is 25.5 cm (10 inches) long with a width of about 35-40mm. Overall length is about 14,5 to 15 inches. The hilt is made of an old horsewagon part, it's wrought iron from the mid 1800´s.
It is etched so you can see the "float-lines" from the melting process of the iron. The ferrule is mammoth ivory...from Holland :thumbup: with some very cool colors. The blade steel is 15N20 + 15LM and consists of 3 bars. The central bar is a "river-pattern" and the edges are of "unsplit" explosion pattern and extremely tight twisted.

Although the knife needs some finishing touches I felt I could show you these pics for your enjoyment. As soon as I have pics of the completely finished knife I will show them here.

Marcel,

That is beautiful! Roger makes some of the nicest Damascus that I have seen. The guard and the carved ivory really make a good fit. It's a great dagger.

That's really an extraordinary piece Marcel.
Love the blade and the handle is a work of Art in itself.

Congratulations to you sir.

Outstanding craftsmanship and beautiful damascus in that dagger.
Must be quite a pleasure to hold it!

Marcel, that is absolutely outstanding in every way. I love Roger's stuff but the daggers are the best, as far as I am concerned. There are any number of pieces, I bet, that our tastes would match right up on.

Another beauty Marcel... Your daggers, at least the ones you share from time to time, are all impressive, and I enjoy seeing them. This is a good example of being involved with the creation of a special knife, and seeing it through. The thread recently where there was the back and forth about ordering direct, lead times, and communications had valid points all around. However, I'm in your camp. I enjoy being part of the design process, and helping to select the materials. Those knives tend to be the favorites in my own collection. Awesome piece... Best, Rich

Marcel you really know how to pull a project together - just terrific in all respects. LOVE the carved handle.

I have to agree that this one is spectacular in every aspect of it, steel, carving, material choices,ect..

Worth the wait! Really fantastic, the blade is particularly appealing to me.

Congrats Marcel

An amazing and truly unmistakable Berg work of art.
Congratulations, Marcel!

All the best,

Thanks guys for all the compliments. Roger is one the most talented and creative makers I know of. He is one of those guys that has a constant flow of ideas that he works into a variety of styles. On top of that he is a great guy to talk and work with. I will make sure that Roger and Isak will hear of all your praise.

This one will be one of my "keepers" for sure.

Marcel

I've admired his work for a long time. That is a real beauty!
