When I hear the words “Master Smith” this is the type of knife that immediately springs to mind – the full-sized forged bowie. Roger Massey has done a truly fine job with this example – 10 inches of super-sharp 1084 with a hand-rubbed satin finish, curly maple handle, oval-shaped and file-worked nickel silver guard.

Some of my favorite things about this knife can’t be conveyed in pictures: the terrific balance for such a large blade; the comfortable and secure grip afforded by the deceptively simple-looking handle and that great combination of quickness and strength that the very best bladesmiths forge into large blades such as this.

I had the pleasure of meeting Roger at the recent Arkansas Custom Knife show where I was fortunate enough to purchase this knife. It wasn’t what you would describe as a tough purchase decision – not only was this a terrific knife and very reasonably-priced, but I already had its little brother waiting for me back at home.

Hope you enjoyed the pics – I had Murray White close by trying to stop me from doing anything idiotic.

Cheers,

Roger

Roger is probably the number 4 bladesmith in the world.
He doesn't know that yet so his prices are still real reasonable.

I have 2 Massey Bowies that I purchased off the aftermarket and they rival anything I have ever seen.

Hey Roger,

decided to take a peak and see if you got the images up and on BF. Good job! Pics look good and the knife is great.

The fileworks on the guard is great guys and the ferule works is very interesting. A real good acquisition by Roger on that trip south he made.

How did the other background work out Roger? maybe you can post one of them here or in the photo thread.

RogerP. Thanks for posting the pictures. They look great. Enjoyed meeting you at the Arkansas show. Thanks for the kind words about the bowie. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it.
Mr. Lombardo. Thank you so much for your compliment. I try to put everything in to the quality of my knives.
Mr. Montgomery, Mr. Nemesis, Mr. White -Thank you for your comments on my work. I appreciate it.

Really great looking Bowie, I like it almost as much as another Master Smith, Bailey Bradshaw. Thanks for the classy pictures

Welcome to the forums Elizabeth :D. - Gus

Roger(s) - just an awesome knife by one of my favorites, thanks for the early sneak preview, even at that I had to pop in and see the picture again. :)
