When I hear the words Master Smith this is the type of knife that immediately springs to mind the full-sized forged bowie. Roger Massey has done a truly fine job with this example 10 inches of super-sharp 1084 with a hand-rubbed satin finish, curly maple handle, oval-shaped and file-worked nickel silver guard.
Some of my favorite things about this knife cant be conveyed in pictures: the terrific balance for such a large blade; the comfortable and secure grip afforded by the deceptively simple-looking handle and that great combination of quickness and strength that the very best bladesmiths forge into large blades such as this.
I had the pleasure of meeting Roger at the recent Arkansas Custom Knife show where I was fortunate enough to purchase this knife. It wasnt what you would describe as a tough purchase decision not only was this a terrific knife and very reasonably-priced, but I already had its little brother waiting for me back at home.
Hope you enjoyed the pics I had Murray White close by trying to stop me from doing anything idiotic.
Cheers,
Roger
