RogerP had a thread "Dan Farr JS - Camp, Combat and Integral Utility" about his 3 piece handle and I just had to try it. And after 4 tries with the same blade this is what I come up with. For me I don't think it was worth the trouble. You can see a couple spots in the carbon fiber that I need to add epoxy to and it wasn't do to not having enough epoxy on the carbon fiber cloth, probabley because I used double cloth on each seam.

It looks good and must be stronger than wood alone. Or is it stabilized wood? Why don't you think it is worth it? Do you think the next one will require 4 attempts? Dan Farr probably had the same bad luck.

It was just a lot of missing around. I think the next time it would be easer. The the last handle was stabilized wood and I just did it for looks. I think Dan did it because his used end grain and he did it to make the handle stronger.

Keep it that you reach your goals, the blade is very well designed and Finisher.
Congrats, Hugs

4 tries? You must have been ready to throw the thing through the window when the third one failed, lol. It turned out well in the end. I also really like that blade profile. Thanks for the pics.

That's a pretty good result for a first try, I'd say. Like any new process, the frustrations and failures are heavily front-loaded onto the first few attempts.

I seem to recall that Dan used a single sheet of CF between each slab of wood, but the photos I have aren't conclusive on that point.

That approach may be worth a try in any event.

And that's a handsome knife you made.

xaman,
I was going to get this done if it was the last thing I ever did.

RogerP,
Yelp, lots of frustrations and to many failures. The first tries I use one sheet of CF and the last time I used two sheets of CF. And I think the two sheets of CF is why it pulled the little gap on the bottom of the handle when I was sanding, The CF was to wide. But I can fix that.

dz farias,
Yes, it is ok. But I'm not going to go another handle on this knife, maybe on another knife some day.

Thanks for looking and the comments. Art
