Roland Proctor tribute

Don’t know him too well but did purchase a knife from him last February.

Fantastic person to deal with and we had few back and forth with him taking the time to educate me on the knife.

Here is the purchase I made from him.

Many thanks for creating this thread

I didn't buy any knives from Roland but used to have very rewarding e-mail exchanges with him about knives and matters to do with the then Forum before he got banned- which I considered very unfair. He was enthusiastic and his own man, I respected that and still do. He had a wealth of knowledge and an enviable collection too. I hope his family find tranquility.

Thanks, Will.

Wonderful idea Cal, Thank you for starting this Thread- its a kind and thoughtful tribute.

Its been great reading the lovely things people have said about Roland and their friendship.

I was thinking hard on doing a give-away in Roland's name, I will do this after this Thread has been around for a while, in that give away will be a Knife I purchased off Roland so someone can have one of Roland's Knives to appreciate.

I purchased many Knives off Roland, during this time there was usually quite a grouping of knives to make it worthwhile because of the cost of Shipping had to continually gently push back Roland's amazing generosity. At times Roland would sneak in a gift Knife and he then would let me know once the parcel was on it's way to me.
It was just great ringing Roland and talking at times for a long time- he would tell me about his property in Johnson's Landing and describe the amazing wildlife- the beautiful water that he had in a natural Spring on that property - just so many great things, also about his life and family, his pets.

Here is a very much loved Knife Roland 'slipped" in with one of my bigger purchases off him, he stopped doing this after I had to kindly tell him off for doing this ( it took a few reminders for him to do this ) lol, he was just so kind, so thoughtful and loved talking about the Knives, as well as countless e-mails that again- had all of this.
He would always sign his e-mails off so nicely.

I hope so much that Roland's energy still burns so brightly and he continues to find adventures that we can only imagine, I miss you Roland Proctor, you were an awesome fellow with a huge heart.

Here is Roland's gift to me, he excitedly e-mailed me and said to me to let him know the moment I open this gift - he knew I would fly out of my seat in disbelief - which I did, a somewhat hard to find Sears and Roebuck Camillus made Gunstock, its just gorgeous as a knife and a real treasure as for sentimental value.

Roland was a very knowledgeable knife man as well as a generous soul. I made several transactions with him over the last decade, the latest this past January, as always he included "bonus knives" in the package. He was a unique individual, living life his way - lot to be said for that. OH

I enjoyed chatting with Roland the past few years and I acquired a few knives from him. My favorite is this custom elephant ivory trapper made by Bruce Bump. If you aren’t familiar with Bruce’s work, do a quick search and look at some of his knife/firearm artwork. He made this for Roland and it was one of his early folders...his 7th actually.

Quintessential knife for Roland - he loved Ivory!! Bruce has made very few folders, relative to most makers! Great maker!!!B.B. Picture show 1.jpg

My offerings aren't as sweet as the ones already shared here, but I have had some nice deals with Roland. I was fortunate to get this group of Bruckmanns from him...

I also got these 2 nice marlinspike knives from him, with the Schrade Ted Williams being the winner of that deal!

I also bough a large lot of Imperial shell handle knives off of him. They were nice pieces, and he threw in quite a few extras at no charge. I don't have pics of those right now...
