A couple years ago or so I bought a pair of CRKT S2's on clearance from somewhere on the 'net. On one of them the edge looked a bit "funny," so it was the other I gave as a present. Some time later I decided to touch the blade on mine up a bit. Didn't really go well, and, at the time, I didn't understand why. So today I got it and the Sharpmaker out to give it another go. In the process: I figured out what was wrong with the blade: The edge, along pretty much its entire length, was folded over to one side! It was like a wire-edge on steroids.
Has anybody ever seen this before with a factory edge?
It took a God-awful long time to work that out on my Sharpmaker--even with a diamond rod. Now I understand all too well what people mean when they say a Sharpmaker isn't practical for re-profiling.
The good news is that, for whatever reason I was not able to get the Sharpmaker to work for me a year-and-a-half or two years ago, now it works like a charm. The other night I sharpened both my Delica 4 and my Trance, and it took no time at all. And while the folded edge on the S2 was certainly a test of my patience and will-power
, I did get it done.
