I have been looking for a good sturdy 4-5 blade length fixed blade for general use and outdoors carry.
I wanted something that would be tough enough that I wouldn't be afraid to use it aggressively if neccisary, but not at the expense of cutting ability. This means no super-thick overbuilt knives. If the Becker Campanion was thinner it would be exactly what I want.
After looking at whats available I really like either the SRKW Bandicoot or one of the flat ground Grecos that are currently on sale.
Both of these knives come with a formed leather sheath with no sort of provision for external restraint. It looks like the knife could just drop out if the sheath were to tilt or lean. I'm more used to the Cordura/Kydex sheaths that are available, and I would feel more comfortable with one of these.
Are these sheaths a decent way to tote a blade around, or should I plan on getting some sort of aftermarket one if I decide to purchase one of these knives?
Also, feel free to toss out any other recommendations for a good general use outdoor knife.
